Shannon The Dude and Billy Rutledge talk UK vs. Missouri, SEC Tournament bracket, and moments in life that made you feel old.
Welcome everybody. It is the KSR pre Show.
Thursday March sixth Shannon the Dude and Billy Reutledge. Give us a call on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
If you're a whiskey thief Call of the day.
You can also send us a text at five O two two six five six six five six KSR Pre Show being brought to you by Italics Fine Italian Donning in Lexington. Tomorrow we will be live at Cornbread Hemp in Lovell. Until then we're in the studio. I'm in the Lobal studio today, Billy are sports over in Lexington, not in studio but at home.
And good morning Billy, how are you doing?
Good morning? Dude.
Can't say enough good things about corn Bread Hemp. Talk about after a two am postgame show where you make women and children cry all across the Commonwealth. Nothing gets you through that night through like some corn bread Hemp. So looking forward to going to I guess to their plant on Friday.
Oh it is.
It is like the Willy Wonka chocolate factory. I went over there a couple of weeks ago and they've got like one section over here where people are, you knowing it up, and then over here they're putting the sugar on it, and over here they're doing it's a whole thing.
It's amazing. What a production they've got over there.
You'll see it tomorrow for those of you who are planning on being there, and of course come bright and early for the pre show tomorrow morning, starting at nine o'clock.
Yeah, all the moving and shaking that Cornbread Hemp has done. I mean, they were a small company that took a shot on KSR and now look at all the big things that they're doing. So cannot wait to see them tomorrow. It was an odd night in the SEC last night, Shandon. I'm sure we'll talk about all that. But I was enjoying your video of Ryan Lemon that you posted this morning.
Oh yeah, well, young Ryan Mario actually posted that. I just shared that. I don't know where they got that, I guess off of a VHS tape somewhere of a young Ryan Lemon doing an interview with a young Mark Pope. And Mark Pope was begging people to send socks, begging. I think that Mark Pope, with his salary these days, can afford all the socks that he needs. But that was quite a video. I always love the old Ryan Lemon on the news videos that surface.
There's quite a few of them. There's some bloopers.
There's one video in which his co host is co anchor, pushes him out of his seat and knocks them backwards at the end of the broadcast. There's another of film singing the lyrics to Baby Got Back.
Have you seen that one?
No?
I haven't seen that.
No.
Oh God, I got to share that with you in the break. But Ryan Lemon, you know he's a National Treasurer, But apparently he was a National Treasurer along before KSR because some of those broadcasts, I don't even know what the point of the broadcast was, like, what was the point of the interview with Mark Pope?
Obviously it was sarcasm.
I guess it was a slow news day, so they just wanted to fill some time with Mark Pope begging for socks.
Well one, you know, around Derby time every year we share the video of Ryan getting slammed in the infield at the Kentucky Derby and ruining his clothes. I think that's my all time favorite video and also that video of Ryan and Mark Pope really shows you how far we've come when it comes to college athletes. Right, Mark Pope is begging for socks. He's begging for that cheese on his hamburger, shanding we can't even have cheese on our hamburgers anymore, so please send single slices of cheese. And now, I mean, how many guys are going to college now with million dollar nil deals or if not millions, hundreds of thousands of dollars to play the sports that you know goosegivings and Mark Pope would have to go around looking for free buffets just to continue playing, right, I mean, it's unbelievable how much has changed. But I had heard that story before from Pope. I think he shared it that, you know, they just didn't issue any more socks, and so after a while, shit, and you you know, you start to grind down the ones you have, and I'm sure that gets pretty uncomfortable.
You think maybe after that video kind of gone, you know, goes out there and goes viral, that maybe next game people will bring socks to hand to Mark Pope in exchange for an autograph, because we know Pope likes to hang around and sign everybody's autograph.
Maybe you could.
Yeah, I feel like that's a fair exchange. I'll sign your basketball if you give me a pair of socks.
If we had any more games left a rupt this year, I am certain that somebody would have brought some socks for Mark Pope to sign.
And believe me, he would have sign right.
I mean, he would have stayed at Rup until the very last person was there. And I think that's an endearing quality about him, him going up to, you know, people in wheelchairs and giving them the time of day. I mean, no matter who it is or what affliction they have, he is he does have that kind of synem.
But anyway, that was a great video of a young Ryan Lemon and a young Mark Pope. I definitely go check that out on social media if you haven't already done so. You know, the good thing about radio though, that I love, Billy, is that it kind of keeps all of us young, young at heart, young in my young in your mind. Doing this job, you know, it's almost like it's not even a real job. But I gotta tell you, as I'm getting older, I had a moment last night at the gym. You know, I'm on this health kick where I'm going to the gym as many days as i can throughout the week, and at some point I strike up a conversation with this kid next to me, and he's talking about how he is a bullet Eese baseball player, and I go, you know, I was a Boldies baseball player. Yeah, And I started talking to I go, what year are you? He's like, I'm a sophomore. I go, well, how old are you?
Then?
What?
Sixteen? Yeah? Sixteen?
And then it dawned on me, as I'm having this conversation about to tell him my days of being a Bulletese baseball player, it dawned on me, Billy that when I was playing baseball for Bulleties, this kid wasn't even alive. And I go, oh my god, I feel so old right now. Like I felt embarrassed, and I quickly shut down the conversation and moved on to my next set, because I go, I can't believe, like I know, Like you know, you have these moments when you get older, you start talking to the people and you realize, man, like I know I'm older, but I don't I don't feel like it until I start having conversations with somebody who wasn't even alive when I was in high school. And it just it just it hit me hard man, and I kind of felt bad about it. I go, my god, all right, let me just uh, let me move away from this as quickly as possible.
You felt like the old timer at the gym.
Oh, I mean, I don't, I gotta.
I feel like I don't look like I'm an old person. I don't feel old, but I did in that moment. So what I want to know from our listeners today, call in, give me the moment that you realized you were old. Give me the moment that you realize you were the old guy in the room. Because I had that experience last night and I didn't like it. And he kept calling me sir, and I'm like, will you stop? Don't call me sir.
It makes me feel even older. I don't like that. It was just a really uncomfortable situation, and I don't like it.
I mean, I guess getting old is better than the alternative, which would be dying. You got either one, you got two choices in this world. You either get old or you die. But it's not good when you realize that you're climbing that hill, well hill.
The only person that's undefeated is father time. That's right, right, Chan, We've talked about that, and you know, I think you've slowly merged into an old man getting up to watch the Today Show every morning and and swapping stories with kids that are sixteen year old.
Sixteen years old and still in high school. I'm sure that that hits you hard.
Yeah.
I you know, when did I feel old? Well when the lingo goes right, because I feel like I was up on the lingo for a while, and then you go on TikTok, and then you know, they're just saying these words that you've never heard before and you've got no idea what they mean. And then also, I think waking up early and going to bed early is a big part of me feeling old. I thought I'd stay up till two am every night for the rest of my life. Shannon, I was like, I mean, what's the big deal. I mean, who I can get, you know, five four hours of sleep and be fine. But now if I don't Shannon, and I don't have my coffee in the morning, I just feel like a completely different person. And my back starts to ache and I'm like Andrew Carr on The Bitch.
So I don't know if.
I'm still young though you're still in your twenties, I don't know that you even have, you know, a moment to share when you realize.
You were Do I not qualify I turned thirty.
I feel like you've got to be like at least mid thirties before you get to that point, Like, you know, the first the very first one that I had was I've told the story before, you know.
I was a part of like active modern rock radio.
And then they flip me over to QMF, which is the classic rock station, and they started playing like all the bands that I grew up listening to. I'm going, wait a minute, Pearl Jam's not classic rock. What are we doing playing that over here? Then I go, oh, yeah, that's been out for like twenty years. I guess it is classic rock. So that was like the very first moment that at that was a long time ago. But now I feel like more and more, I'm just getting subtle reminders of being the old guy in the room. And I don't like it, Billy, I just don't like it. So I'd love to hear from some of you out there at Billy our Sports, at Shannon the Dude. You can also let us know on Twitter if you can't call in eighty five nine two eight oho twenty two eighty seven. Last night Billy Kentucky got a little help and Ole Miss beat Tennessee. So I believe that now takes Kentucky out of the scenario of playing on Wednesday. Is I understand it is that correct? Is there any other scenario now that can happen that would still place Kentucky on a Wednesday, Because I think last night, with Ole Miss beating Tennessee, that now at least gives Kentucky the eight seed, which means they'd be playing on Thursday, at least at worst case scenario.
That's correct, Okay, at least in my understanding, that Kentucky has successfully avoided Wednesday. And I think we can all just pause and clap slightly for chich Turnkey, because that was going to be a disaster, right with the general admission seating and maybe not even most of Big Blue Nation being down there for Wednesday. So glad that they were able to get by that, and always happy to see Tennessee lose at the Buzzer like that on a missed layup. But now we turn towards Saturday, and if Kentucky's able to beat Missouri, Shannon an Ole, miss loses to Florida, which is very possible, right, and I'm number five team in the country Florida who just beat Alabama last night. I believe you will hold the tie breaker and go all the way up to a sixth seed. But if you were to lose to Missouri, I think you are settled in as the eight seed.
So a possibility of.
Playing the first game on Thursday or the last game on Thursday, but I believe those are the two possible scenarios for Kentucky.
Right, So as somebody who has to produce that, I would say you probably, Billy, are you pulling for Missouri now so you don't have to be in the studio late at night?
Well Thursday, that is a great question, because if they were to win Thursday, you got to get back up and do it all over again Friday.
Right.
Yeah, of course we're doing our ten roof show on Thursday, by the way, That is right Thursday morning. But we just we're still gonna be back on the air for KOSR the next day. We just won't be at ten roof on Friday. It's Thursday this year.
Instead, I think I would rather have Kentucky play at the night session. And that may not be what you think I would like, and that's but that's because it would be a disaster trying to get our affiliates all in line for KSR pregame show starting in the middle of KASR. Yeah, so I mean that there is like a lot of things that have to go into that. So just to give me at least work amount possible.
See, you're not the night You're now choosing whether or not you pull for Kentucky based on the scenario and how much work you have to do.
But hey, I mean that means I'm pulling for Kentucky to win, right. I don't think you can poo poo me in this situab.
Not, I'm not. You know, Missouri is a tough team to figure out.
I mean when they played Alabama, they them of course at home, they came out and looked like one of the best teams in college basketball. Then they turn around they lose to Arkansas Vandy, and then last night was Oklahoma. All those games were on the road. Missouri is just a completely different team when they're on the road. They're eighteen and one this year at home. Unfortunately, the game on Saturday is at Missouri. So I really don't know what to expect from this Missouri team. I mean, obviously, if you look at the trends, they're gonna be playing better on Saturday than they have in the games they've been on the road. I just don't know how how close of a game it's going to be. You know, do you think Kentucky Jerry sneak? Yeah, somebody just hit me in the back Jerry's shoulder.
Yeah, just walking in here.
Whisper in your ear a little bit, Jerry. I know he's your favorite Louisville cardinal, isn't.
He He is? Yeah, he is just walking in here interrupting the show. Anyway.
I don't know what point I was trying to make other than it's gonna be gonna be tough on the ro Yeah.
So what do you think is going to happen on Saturday?
Man?
I mean, can anybody tell me what's going to happen in the sec from night to I'd like to know. I'd like to ask you a couple of questions about my future. But man, I mean I got I gotta commend Missouri a little bit. You know, they Dennis Gates and that team is it's really had quite the turnaround, and this is a team that is it can make some noise. But you're right, I mean, seems a little odd that they can't win on the road, but at the same time, who can at this point. So this is gonna be a tough environment. But if anything encourages me, it's that I think this Kentucky team is starting to define their roles. They know what's expected out of each player now, and with Jackson Robinson and Kirk Cries out for the year, these guys know what they need to do to step up. And it seems like Andrew carrs getting healthier man and Lamont Butler too. So those are all optimistic things. But this is gonna be a tough one, Shannon, I no doubt. I think Kentucky will be underdog in this game.
Maybe you get a little extra from Colin Chandler, who's you know, is coming off his his best game.
Maybe you get him rolling.
If you can do that, I feel good about this team going into the SEC Tournament. In the NC DOUAA tournament. Yeah, you know, you got to get some people that will step up. I didn't really expect much at all from Colin Chandler, but then after seeing the last game him getting into double digits, it shows me that that potential is there. I didn't really know what we had in Colin Chandler, and then you see the game just a few days ago, he gets into double digits. Looks good out there. All of a sudden, I'm thinking, all right, maybe we got a little something here. Maybe we can get him rolling and he could be a big part of this team coming up for the tournament.
Yeah, no doubt.
I mean, when you take two years off of basketball, maybe it just takes a little time to ramp up getting back into game action. But he played with a confidence on the offensive end that really served this team well. So if he can continue to do that, that'd be great. You know, you guys were talking about teams you would want to avoid in the NCAA Tournament. I one hundred percent agree. Florida is on that list for me. And Alabama, I mean two teams that played each other last night. I mean they I think are a tier above I would rather play Auburn instead of those two teams, Shannon, is that crazy?
No?
No, But I mean, like, I don't really want to see any of the teams in the in the NCAA tournament if I can avoid it, because I think that's tougher than just about any other team that's left.
Yeah.
Yeah, So I mean you're going to be battle tested. You'll be ready to go by the time the NCAA Tournament starts, right.
Yeah.
And you know, if you can avoid a weird NCAA committee selection, you know, first two round games like a Louisville or a Saint John's or something like that, then you know what. Then I do think Kentucky has the firepower to win a couple games in the tournament, but you know, with the injuries, I think their ceiling has gone down a little bit.
Yeah, And that was my answer yet yesterday on ksaw the team. I don't want to see a Saint John's. I just don't want to see that team because they are rolling right now. I know they don't shoot the ball, defense that they are very good defensively, and you know, if they can shut down like let's say they played and they were able to limit Kentucky's three point attempts. That's that's kind of the recipe for Kentucky to lose games. You know, when you have a game, you're only taking seventeen eighteen three point shots. So that's one of those teams I don't want to run into in the tournament if we can avoid them. But you got to play somebody.
Yeah, and then they shot, you know, over thirty three pointers in their last game, and everybody was thrilled with that, and so Saint John's would be the exact opposite of what you want for that reason. But you know what I mean, you look back up the season so far, and you got these marquee wins against the teams that you want to beat every year. And now, if you can make a little noise here in March, I think most people would be satisfied with this season. It's just been weird, though, because you've seen this Kentucky team lose to some pretty mediocre teams this year.
Eighty five to nine and two eight oh, twenty two, eighty seven. Coming up next, we'll take your phone calls. We'll also talk about Mark Pope's comment that he would like to see the irregular season extended to forty games.
Billy, I want your take on that. Got some football.
News to talk about, and if you got a moment that you want to share with us when you realize you were the old person in the room eight five, nine and two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, will be right back on the ksrpre Show. It is the KSR Pre showp. Nine two eightho twenty two eighty seven. Billy are sports and old man dude here with you? Give us a call. Let me let me ask you about this, Billy. Mark Pope said he was talking to the media yesterday. He said he would be in favor of going to forty games, a forty game regular season, and what like, what do you think about that?
Like, or would you be in favor of.
Going to forty games or do you want to keep it at what is it thirty one?
Now?
Thirty one?
Yeah?
Yeah, I mean I don't have a yearning to get more games in. I think that it would be fun to have more non conference games, right. You know, there's the possibility of more exhibition games now that D one teams can play each other, so maybe they explore that a little bit. But look, I mean this is probably a money move, right like this.
Of course it is.
It's always about money, more opportunity to make money, to pay to more nil to players. So I get that, and that's a smart, savvy move by a coach that's looking ahead, right, But I think there's a there's an obvious drawback of it, and that's more opportunities for players to get injured. Now, you can't play the sports scared, right, You can't go into games thinking that maybe somebody might get injured, so maybe we shouldn't do something.
I could use that argument against you, just though, and say, Okay, if anybody is injured, it extends the season. Maybe a gal at kerk criesa could still get some playing time if he had, say ten more games left.
Yeah.
Sure.
So I don't know. I don't know that it ever will go to that.
But you know, if there's a way for the NC DOUBLEA to make more money, you know that's probably.
Going to happen, right what they're doing.
We've talked about expanding the NC DOUBLEA tournament. Now we're talking about, you know, having conversations expanding the regular season. Do you get paid by the game, by the way, when you produce those I know Tom Leech does too, So there you go, more money for you.
Why wouldn't you want to do that.
Yeah, I.
Personally am not opposed. Now I do not want to move March Madness more out of March either.
That's another thing. I've heard people saying, like, oh, we could play it in May or eighty.
We're going to expand the tournament.
I don't want. I don't want May. I don't want May Madness.
Like what you got going on right now is the best thing in sports.
I don't even think it's close. You can have the.
Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, all of it. There's nothing that compares to March Madness. Now, you start messing with it too much, all of a sudden, you're going to dilute it. You're going to change you know what it is, and you start adding teams, and all of a sudden, then it doesn't mean as much when you make the NCAA tournament. I mean, I know that they keep adding teams to Division one.
I get that.
I get that, But if you, you know, add more teams, you're slotting the skill to being the same percentage of teams getting into the tournament. I understand that argument, but Billy, I don't know, like if we're going to expand it, I mean, maybe a couple of more teams, but at the end of the day, there's always going to be the one team that doesn't get in. It doesn't matter if you go to sixty eight or ninety six teams. There's always going to be a sixty ninth or on ninety seventh team. It doesn't matter. So some at some point, somebody's not going to get in.
Yeah, yeah, and you're right, but it also devalues the regular season, right, I mean, if if it's going to lower, I mean, the worse teams are going to be getting in than when a you have a big matchup late in the year between two good teams, it probably just means a little less, right, So you know, and then if you were to move back the calendar, then you're getting into like baseball really getting into a full swing and be a playoffs. I mean, you just don't want to screw up the sports calendar that much. So I guess they would start earlier if they'd want to add in those games. Yeah, and you know, I'm all all for it, but if especially get me getting paid by the game.
There you go.
You made a great point.
You know what I think I'm I think I've decided on what I'm going to say on this.

What's it good? David?
Well, I was willing to call and take us for Billy kind of get note that everybody is calling and hammered an audio over the call with Heather. It really aggravated me a couple of days ago with Tommy calls and tells you that you did a horrible, horrible thing and you were merely doing your job. And you know, nobody wants to hear the same people over in We're over and that's exactly why that.
There you go, there you go, Billy, job buddy. There's your defense attorney right there, David calling for you.
All right, I bet, I bet Billy.
At this point, David, though, it just wishes everybody would start talking, stop talking about it so we can move on. So I thought we had. I thought we had moved on. Yeah, all right, David, we appreciate it. Thanks for the call. I think that's probably the best thing at this point. Let's just stop talking about it.
Let's move on.
Don't let Shandon poop poo that either. I thank you, David.
Okay, yeah, okay, we'll see if we can find any more Billy defenders.
Let's go. Let's go to Bres. Go ahead, Brett.
Hell, Hey, this is this is Bricks's dad. I'm sorry, it's Dustin.
Oh, okay, go ahead, Dustin. See, that's what happens.
We don't have a pre We we tried calling in a while ago, but I guess our numbers saved is our son. But yes, speaking of bricks, we got a chance to go to the uh the game on Tuesday night and had a chance to stay after and we were some of the last people there and just to shout out to Coach Pope. Literally, I mean it's two hours after the game and my son Brex, him and our oldest daughter she's eleven, Conley literally talked to him like we knew them. It was wild and so like they knew us our whole life. And then Brex asked if he could go out on the floor and dunk on the roperena floor and Coach Pope told him to go out there and dunk on it.
Wow, that is awesome. Many thanks for the call.
Man.
I got to cut you off up against it.
We'll be right back. It is the ksrppre Show. It is the KSR pre Show eight five, nine, two, twenty two eighty seven. That was a really cool story from Brex's dad that called it. I hate to cut them off at.
You know, heartbreak.
Heartbreak doesn't doesn't wait for anybody, waits for no man or cow. That was really cool though, that Mark Poe would let a kid go out on the rupperina floor, and that reminded me when I was a kid. You know, I talked about as a kid going to Nashville and going to Vanderbilt games. One of the things that like struck me as almost odd as that back in the nineties, if you went to a game in Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym, like before the game and like after the game, you could just walk on the floor like there was really not any really no security at all. And I remember, like, you know, I would go out and get the player's autographs and stuff before the games that would come out and you'd catch them and say, hey, will you sign this for me? I remember there was one game it was Vandy and Florida and the coach at the time was Jan Van Bredakoff, and you know, they have those benches on the end zones, and I remember it was like maybe five minutes before tip off, and I wanted to get his autograph and I literally.
Go up.
And he's sitting on the bench and I walk up and I'd tap him on the shoulder and I go, coach, would you sign this for me?
And he was nice enough to do it.
But I'm looking back, going, I should not have done that like that.
That's how old was shon the dude back then.
Yeah, like twelve, maybe you know, thirteen, maybe something like that. But I'm going, man, and now that I think about it, that was a really, really, really bad thing.
I shouldn't have done that.
Like I feel almost feel guilty about it now, all these years later, for going up and tapping the coach on the shoulder right before the game's about the start. You know, he's like in game mode and he's nice enough to sign it for me.
But I'm going, what was I thinking?
Well, Ballsy moved by you to just think five minutes before tip, he's got nothing to do.
Yeah, I mean Bara saw on this.
Yeah, hey, I mean, look, he's available, he's not talking to anybody. I'll I'll just go up to him and goes to show you the difference between security at Kentucky and Bandy, Right, I mean, oh yeah, going up to Rick Patino or somebody back in the day five minutes before tip.
I'm sure it's not like that. I'm sure it's not like that.
Now.
It's been a while since I've been to a game there, but I'm sure.
Can I tell you some stuff from the text line? Yes, people are chiming in about the when did you feel old? First of all, the consensus is I am not old, so I have no say and when I feel old yet?
Shannon, That's what I was trying to tell you, still in my twenties.
Yeah, a few here, my old guy moment. I work with several thirty year olds. And he mentioned Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris had passed away and nobody knew who he was. Tough moment for him.
Yeah.
A couple more.
I realized I was old when I sneezed and injured myself.
You pull your back out from sneezing.
Yeah, yeah, that's a good one. Let's see what else? And uh, I had one more I wanted to share with you here. Oh it was I'm twenty six year old. Twenty six years old, and every night I enjoy a glass of ovaltine. Oh maybe the only person under sixty that drinks ovaltine. Wow, I told this person I have never had ovaltine. Shannon, Did you ever? Do you ever drink the ovaltine.
In the past.
No, but I know what it is.
I feel like that's one of those drinks that nobody you know, like if you were a kid back then, ovaltine was the big thing.
Do you know what tang is? I've heard a tang tang? Tang actually is good?
Is?
I feel like that's something that I haven't thought of though in twenty five years.
Tang? Does anybody still drink tang? Can you even still buy that?
I haven't seen it in a while. Yeah, So, I mean it's got to be out there still somewhere. Maybe somebody will bring us some tang one.
Day, uh eight five, twenty two eighty seven.
I wouldn't doubt if somebody has showed up tomorrow at uh corn bread hint with tangs.
Well, I want to I want to take some tangs.
Yeah, it's good stuff.
Do that?
Please?
Andy? What's up? Andy?
Hey? What's up?
Uh?
Literally no to finding moment that makes it feel old. But to tell you what, you got to plan your hangovers.
Yeah, you gotta pick and choose them. You don't get them every time.
I mean I used to not think about it. You just used to and then and just deal with it or whatever, Like next Friday, I know I'm going to have a doozy coming back to Nashville. Yeah, it's uh, you got to plan those. And what makes me feel real old it is when I'm at a restaurant and I order a drink and I'm they're asking for an ID or I reached to get my ID and they're like, we don't need to see that.
Yeah, yeah, that's the one.
You gotta attracted. You got an attractive way thus calling you sir, and it's just like humanized. It's like, no, no, I don't want that.
I'm with you, man, Like now I want to be carted. You know, like when you were when you were twenty one, it was like, yeah, you don't want to be coming now Now it's like you take that as a compliment.
Yeah.
I remember being twenty and going please don't ask, please don't ask.
Yep.
Well, Andy, hey, you're gonna be coming down.
To NASA looking forward man, Yeah yeah.
Yeah, so oh yeah, you're gonna be that down there for the Alice Blue Gown show.
Right, absolutely, coming down Wednesday night and going back on Friday. All right, I'm gonna be like Billy on Wednesday night. I'm going to be like to drink Andy on Wednesday night because I know I got to be one hundred percent going strong for Thursday.
There you go.
Yeah, I would not be one hundred percent after two.
Yeah, well Billy would be a face down on a toilet if he had two drinks.
But yeah, make sure that you're ready to go for Thursday.
Andy.
We're gonna need Andy at one hundred percent on Thursday.
Rarin to go.
Man, See, I'll probably talk to you before them, but I'll see you.
This got it all right, man, appreciate it.
Looking forward to seeing Andy down there next week. Spik An of the band Billy, you know, we just released our single doing really well going up the chart. Well it's not on the charts, but it's getting thousands of downloads and views, which is really cool.
Really appreciate that.
But we are looking for looking to add a new guitar player to the band, all right, So we need I know there's a million people out there that play guitar. We need somebody that's going to be committed to playing the band. First of all, you know, we don't want you to come join the band and then quit six months later. We need somebody that can shred on the guitar, and you have to be able to sing harmony. We have to have somebody that can harmonize with me with my voice. So if you're interested in maybe joining a soon to be award winning rock band, a Grammy winning band, I want you to send a video to me at Shannon the Dude on social media Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever of you playing and singing, and you know, we may bring you in for an audition, maybe jaming with you soon. So we need an the guitar player at Shannon the Dude. If if you want to join the band, we may make that happen.
Wow, I mean maybe you want to join the band.
A little crowd crowd sourcing here, Yeah, asking for a new guitarist. I mean, what an opportunity. I mean you could be playing it louder than life five years from now.
Maybe you'll pen for Third Eye Blind again.
I mean, you've already got the hit single now and you could get in on the ground floor. So a really cool opportunity. Now, I'm at home right now, Shannon, so it's my opportunity. Are you going to audition right now? Remind you my electric guitar is right here here.
Pick that thing. Let me I probably can't hear it. Yeah, do you have the amp on?
No, I don't have the amp or the connections ready to go. I've got an acoustic somewhere around here.
But well tell you what, you know, maybe maybe next segment we can hear a little bit only our sports on the acoustic.
Yeah, I've I've lost most of my playing ability. But you know what, if you want me to show up and help pass out T shirts, I can do that.
Too, That's right. Yeah, we need we need a band manager, so maybe we can make that.
But yeah, seriously, though, if if you play guitar and you can and seeing harmony, we need you, let us know.
Let me know at.
Shannon the Dude on Twitter or wherever you do social media. Just drop us a video. Let's talk a little football before we go back to the phones. Billy Mitch Barnhardt spoke with the media yesterday and called to Kentucky's football season last year a one year blip. I think that was the big takeaway. You know, they went four and eight. To me, that was more than a blip. That was more like a disaster. But you know, not just looking at the record, but the locker room culture that we heard about last year, it seemed to be completely out of control. You know, if you go back the last previous two years, they're seven and six. So if you don't think that, you know, that was a blip, as he called it, then that tells me you're okay with seven and six be in your record. But I'll tell you who's not fine with seven and six. It's our fan base.
Yeah, So I don't know.
I mean I look at the last three years and I don't call that a blip. I call that mediocrity. And that's not a blip at that point. If you have three straight years of disappointing seasons, that's called a trend.
Well, let me play Devil's advocate a little bit because I agree with what you and and really Matt reiterated yesterday about you know, losing twice to Vandy at home over the last three years and not winning at home really at all over these last three years. I mean, that has to be corrected and changed. You know, Mark Stoops has risen the standard at Kentucky to where seven and six is no longer acceptable. Yep, and it you know, it's unfortunate that the I guess the one year blip refers to the eight year Bowl streak snapping, right. I mean that is something that I think many prided themselves around the program. But you know, Mitch Barnhardt had some telling comments in that interview with the Lexington Herald Leader where he were to say, you know, two to three more years and we're still not back to where we want to be. Then you start to have some conversations, and I think that, to me, Shannon shows that Mitch really does believe in what he's saying, that that is a one year blip and Mark Stoops is going to have every opportunity, maybe over multiple years, to try to write the ship. But I I'm not ready to say, based on those comments by Mitch that UK's all time winning his head coaches on the hot seat yet. I mean, you may disagree, you may think that he has to win now, but I think they could have a losing season next year with this very top ten tough schedule and Mitch Barnhart would still be on board.
Yeah.
I mean we've said it over and over and over the schedule is going to be tougher this year, but you've you've got to in my opinion, get back to at least a Bowl game.
And that's gonna be tough.
It is, but I mean, at some point you got to realize you're playing in the SEC. So do we make excuses because we have a tough schedule, or do we get better and try to get back to the eight to nine ten win seasons again. I mean, I don't think that's impossible. I don't think it's gonna happen every year. But what can happen is you can't go four and eight again. You know, it's not about just missing the Bowl last year. You didn't miss it by a game. You missed it by a couple of games. You know, you were four and.
Eight embarrassed by Louisville.
Yeah, mean you were five and seven. Eh, Okay, maybe that's a blip.
I don't know.
I mean, again, that's only it's only a difference in one game. The point is, though you can't go four and eight again, you got to you gotta do better.
And you know, to add to your point, I mean, you don't beat Louisville a couple of years ago with Ray Davis, and you look at that season much differently, I think so.
And you gotta win a home game. How about that?
It doesn't seem hard. I mean, now the question is is Vince Marrow going to be on the sidelines for That's that and that's.
The other football story from the h from yesterday that came out that Vince Merrill reported Lee interviewing for the Bowling Green job. So do you think that the Big Dog is going to leave Kentucky for Bowling Green? Do you think this is just like a matter of time, like it's going to happen eventually?
You know, there was talks with him in.
Louisville and we had that awkward interview that happened while we were at the pizza ranch on the road just a couple of months ago.
Do you think that it's only a matter of time before he leaves.
I don't know.
I can't get a read on the situation just because it keeps happening and happening. I mean Louisville, North Carolina and Bill Belichick if you remember that the I mean Toledo, Southern miss I mean, the Big Dog keeps seeing seemingly being in the hunt for other jobs. And when somebody can recruit that, well, there's no doubt that their people are going to come and ask to see if you're interested. But it is telling that he is interviewing with these teams, is it not. It is if you're one hundred percent all in, then may you kind of stick your nose in the air and you say, I love where I'm at. But Vince is entertaining the conversation. I wish him the best of luck no matter where he goes. And if he decides to leave now, it would be a little strange though, right, I mean, how often do we get March job openings in college football?
The Ball and Green.
Coach left to be the Eagles quarterbacks coach, So this is a unique situation. But you know, I don't know if this is the right time or job for Vince, but it just keeps rearing its ugly head, and you have to think. It's only human nature to think. I mean, if if you want to leave, Vince.
Leave, well, I mean yeah, but I mean, to his to his credit, he hasn't. He's shown a lot of loyalty. He could have been gone a long time ago, yet he's still here at Kentucky. You know, he was down in Nashville at the SEC tournament last year. Maybe he's gonna be there again this year. Maybe he's gonna get up on stage with the band and sing simple Van again, you know like you did last year. If he does, Billy, maybe I can get a little scoop up on the stage.
Well, he endeared himself to this fan base, there's no doubt that's right. I know a radio host that could probably give us some more info about the situation.
I'm sure later we will take one more call before we go to the break, and then we'll take the rest of them on the other side.
Let's go to Glenn in Pennsylvania.
Hey Glenn, Hey guys, what's going on? Hey, I want to piggyback on earlier call there David with Billy's radio Snap, who Billy. I'll support you, man. They want to get to do a job. You did your job, and you know what more can you ask for? You ask a guy to do something, he does it. Secondly, you guys were talking about feeling old. I felt old when my son started working at the same job that I was at and had been to ben at for twelve years. So that kind of made me feel a little old about my son was working at the same place I was.
Did he take your job.
No, no, no, he did not take my ba.
Yeah that's good. That would be bad. Yeah, move over, old man here, I make it your job exactly.
Yeah.
Yeah. But you guys have a good day and have a good time down at Nashville. Root on them cats, and talk to you guys later.
All right, Glenn, thank you for the call. We appreciate it. Two eighty seven. We're we're late for a break, so let's take that. We'll come back take the rest of the phone calls. Coming up next. A lot of people liked tang, so I'm going to have to try that. And then one person says, I knew I got old when I started growing more hair in my ears than on my head.
That's a problem. We got three callers. I'm gonna try to get to all of them. Let's go to Mike first.
He Mike, Hey, Mike, He good morning, gentlemen. I had my old man in the room moment about a year ago. A young lady named Emily, who was a basketball player at Henry County, was helping me with some in home care and she's she was a freshman at UK and I said, well, that was a freshman there seventy three. You're twenty three, fifty years ago. So we were talking about the changes on campus, and I said, you know, when I was there, if I was talking to a guy who graduated, you know, fifty years before me, I would have been talking to a guy who And then I just stopped and I said, rode a horse.
To clash, Yeah, it's insane, and we both just we.
Had a great laugh. It was that moment for me when I knew.
I was old.
So the call Mike, we appreciate it, Mike. Yeah, it's one of those. It's gonna be coming for you eventually. Billy, don't say that you're you're gonna have that eventually. Let's go to Terry. What's up Terry?
Speaking of Tang, I didn't drink Tang, but had he had a generic brother called Start and I don't know if you remember that started with a little sweeter than that. That was very good. They don't make that anymore. Uh one, take on the basketball real quick. I know LSU was a must win game, and they took care of business. I believe Missouri is must win and it's for this reason when we when we're in the tournament, both tournaments, especially the NCAA tournament, you gotta win two games in a week, and we haven't won two games in a week since Moby Dick was a minute. I mean, wether we win one lose one, I mean I couldn't take the last time we won two games in a week. So just for some morale and hey, we can do this, I believe they need to win Missouri on Saturday.
Yeah, good call, Terry. We'll make you the whiskey thief call of the day.
Go by Whiskey Thief to still in company is still a taste of unfolded whiskey straight from the barrel, and book a tour at whiskey thief dot com. You know, I don't really know what to expect going into the NCAA tournament. Like, hey, sweet sixteen would be cool, but like, if they made it that far, it wouldn't surprise me.
If they lost in the first round, it wouldn't surprise me.
Here you go.
The last time Kentucky won two games in the same week was December thirty first to January fourth. They beat Brown and then they beat Florida.
Is that right?
They have not won two games in the same week.
Wow?
All year?
Well, you know what, now's a good time to start. Let's go to Adam. Let's up Adam.
What's up? Guys? My getting all moments happened that we went to Drakes and Bowling Green to watch the Kentucky game, went to order an adult beverage and the lady asked for my ID and then she said, or you could just take off your hats. Wow, I know I've got I know I've got some thinning hair and a little bit of a bald spot. But it's you know, talk about like you're not getting it too, you know.
Yeah, yeah, she just wanted to say, yes you got judge you based off your hairline. I don't know, man, I've seen some like eighteen year olds that are going bald, so I don't know that would necessarily mean that, you know, your.
A little heart old or not a waitress. Yeah, thanks for the call, Adam, We appreciate it.
Another one.
I'm sorry man, we're up against it. Where the show is over at this point.
