അതൊരു മഴക്കാലമായിരുന്നു. വഴിയിലും പാടത്തും കുഞ്ഞു തോട്ടിലും വെള്ളം. കുറേ കുറേ വെള്ളം. നല്ല കറുത്ത റോഡിൻറെ ഇരുവശത്തും കെട്ടി നിൽക്കുന്ന വെള്ളത്തിലൂടെ ഓരോ വാഹനങ്ങൾ വേഗത്തിൽ പോകുമ്പോൾ മണ്ണ് കലർന്ന ഇളം തവിട്ട് നിറത്തിലുള്ള വെള്ളം കുതിച്ച് ഉയരും. അത് കണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്നത് പാടവരമ്പത്തെ തവളക്കുട്ടിക്ക് വലിയ ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു. അതിനൊരു കാരണവുമുണ്ട്. എന്താണത്? കഥ കേട്ടോളൂ..

It was a rainy season.  Water everywhere – on the roads, in the paddy fields, and in the little streams.  Lots and lots of water. As vehicles sped along the black road, the water, a muddy light brown, would splash up on either side. The tadpole on the paddy bund loved watching this.  There was a reason for this. What was it?
