The front yard family - breaking isolation and loneliness with Jason Knight

Did you know that in Australia, over 13 million people have one or more chronic (long-term) eye conditions? And that over 575,000 are blind or vision impaired in Australia alone.

I certainly didn’t.

And I’m embarrassed to admit that until I met Kathryn Collins, a graphic designer that specialises in creating accessible documents (and the 2nd person in Australia to recently qualified as an Accessible Document Specialist with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible., I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible.

In this episode, Kathryn talks about what document accessibility is and how we can all start to make our communications more inclusive.

How to make your marketing documents more accessible

It’s easy for small business owners to dismiss the idea of investing in brand development as it’s a hard one to directly measure the outcome of and it always seems like a hefty investment to make in isolation.

However, it’s honestly one of the most important investments that you can ever make in your business. A brand helps create attention in the short term and build trust and loyalty in the long term.

Recently I surveyed 50 small business owners and asked them what the biggest challenge was when it came to creating their content marketing.

The survey revealed that the biggest challenge that 60% of small business owners face is finding the time to create a consistent flow of content. They simply don’t feel like they have the time or the resources to keep up.

No wonder it’s confusing for small business owners to know who to listen to, which advice they should follow and who does what in the world of marketing.

Well, one of the ways you can tell a professional marketer is by looking for the Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM) certification.

The CPM designation is the only peak professional benchmark of its kind for Marketers in the Asia-Pacific Region and the title officially recognises both formal education and the successful application of a marketer's marketing knowledge and skills in practice.
