In this episode, Paul talks with Barrie Elvish, CEO of AUSactive, a not-for-profit association that supports the health and exercise industry in Australia. Barrie is an avid surfer, park runner, and former teacher who was on the verge of retirement when an agent recruited him for a six-month position with AUSactive. That was five years ago.
AUSactive is Australia’s peak body for the exercise and active health sector, to activate Australians to move more. They do this through providing services, education, and advocacy for exercise professionals, businesses, and students. Programs are designed to grow skills, businesses, and careers. They work with all stakeholders across the sector, driving the development of best practices, industry standards, and continuing education to support members so they are ready for emerging opportunities and rewarding careers.
Tune in to hear Barrie share his insights about AI's impact on the fitness industry, how the industry can avoid future employment concerns, and how AUSactive is working to strengthen the industry’s position with the government to change funding models.
