The family of the late Bacelio Alphonso, who passed away on December 30, 2024, while incarcerated at Leeuwkop Prison in Johannesburg, is seeking justice  to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death. In a statement the family says Authorities informed the family the following day, but key details, including the exact time of death, remain unclear. Family members, says a source within the prison, allege Alphonso was beaten to death by officials who claimed he attacked them after allegedly smoking crystal meth. The High Court, in Pretoria, has struck off the roll, the urgent application to prevent the basic education department from publishing matric results. The Information Regulator brought the case before the court in relation to the release of the 2024 matric results on forums including newspapers. The regulator says the publishing of the 2024 matric results which will be released on Monday would violate the learners' right to privacy. In delivering the judgement, the presiding judge had this to say.

In an effort to address this, the Malawi government says it has bought about 51.5 million litres of diesel and petrol from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) under a government-to-government (G-2-G) arrangement. Zuma's lawyers have written to the (ANC) seeking his immediate reinstatement as a member of the ANC and further information on his expulsion. In November last year, the ANC's National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upheld the committee's decision to expel Zuma. The uMkhonto we Sizwe Party leader was expelled for bringing the party into disrepute and establishing and leading a rival political party. MK Party lawyers have given the ANC until the end of January to respond. uMkhonto we Sizwe Party's Floyd Sgivambub recently said its members are allowed to have dual membership in exceptional strategic cases.
