World Drug Awareness Day, observed annually on June 26th, is a crucial global event dedicated to raising awareness about the severe impact of drug abuse and trafficking.

This day, also known as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, aims to educate communities, support victims, and promote effective measures to combat drug-related issues.

The continent faces a growing crisis as both the consumption of illicit drugs and the activities of drug trafficking networks intensify. Countries in West and East Africa, in particular, have emerged as critical transit hubs for cocaine and heroin, exacerbating local addiction problems and fueling violence and corruption.
