April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, a time to move beyond awareness and truly embrace inclusion. It’s a global initiative dedicated to educating the public, breaking down stigma, and creating a more understanding world for autistic individuals. According to the World Health Organisation, autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder, represents a diverse range of conditions related to brain development, reminding us that no two experiences are the same.
We dive into this important conversation with Autistic adult Prashant Parusnath, Diane Mariah-Singh, the Director of Action in Autism and social worker, Liza Aziz, parent and chair of Action in Autism, and specialist psychiatrist, Dr Mohamed Shaquir Salduker.
