Damien Rider is an extreme adventure sports athlete and one who holds multiple world records. Damien completed a 17-day 500-mile solo (and unsupported paddle) in Australia’s shark infested waters. He encountered 21 sharks, starvation, dehydration, and was knocked unconscious numerous times before ticking this feat off his list. He skateboarded 2,500-mile journey along Route 66, a 56-day journey and last year climbed a ladder atop an in-flight hot air balloon 7500 ft above ground because… well, why not?
As I bantered with Damien today and learned about why and how he landed upon living the appealing and unconventional lifestyle he does we talked about his tough upbringing and the childhood trauma he experienced from such a young age. How his process of healing unfolded and feeds into his strength of mind today and physical achievements, most of which he was told time and time again were impossible.
