As South Africa marks National Pregnancy Week from the 3rd to the 7th of February, mental health experts are raising concern about the silent burden of depression and anxiety during pregnancy. In South Africa, the numbers tell a sobering story. Between 16% and 50% of women experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy, while as many as one in ten are at high risk of suicide. We are joined by Dr Keitumetse Mashego who is a Clinical and Sports Psychologist as we take a look at maternal mental health in South Africa.
