The most common form of union in the country is civil marriages, which totalled 97 510 in 2024. 2 634 customary marriages and 2 229 civil unions were also registered that year. We are in conversation with Legal advisor and Direct at Mokgehle Mohlala attorneys,  Mpho Mokgehle on the decline in customary marriage and how those thinking about getting married can protect themselves before tying the knot.
