ആ റോഡിന് ഇരുവശത്തും കുറച്ചു വീടുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എല്ലാവർക്കും തിരക്കല്ലേ, ആരും നേരിട്ട് കാണാറുകൂടിയില്ല. വല്ലപ്പോഴും പുറത്തേക്കിറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ ആരെങ്കിലും പരസ്പരം കണ്ടാൽ കണ്ടു. മിണ്ടിയാൽ മിണ്ടി. ചിരിച്ചാൽ ചിരിച്ചു. അത്ര തന്നെ. പക്ഷെ ആ വീടുകളുടെ മതിലുകളിലുള്ള വള്ളിച്ചെടികളും പൂക്കളുമൊക്കെ നല്ല കൂട്ടായിരുന്നു. ഈ വീട്ടുകാരൊക്കെ പരസ്പരം ഒരു സ്‌നേഹവുമില്ലാതെ ജീവിക്കുന്നതിൽ അവർക്ക് ലേശം വിഷമവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഒരിക്കൽ ആ ചെടികളിലേക്ക് വിരുന്നു വരുന്ന പൂമ്പാറ്റകളും തേനീച്ചകളും ഈ കഥയൊക്കെ അറിഞ്ഞു. ഈ വീട്ടുകാരെയൊക്കെ ഒന്നിപ്പിക്കാൻ എന്താ വഴി? കഥ കേട്ടോളൂ

 There were a few houses on both sides of that road. Everyone was so busy that they rarely even saw each other directly.
