A study published in PLOS Mental Health suggests ChatGPT may be a better therapist than humans, at least in controlled couples therapy scenarios. Researchers assigned 830 participants to either a trained human therapist or ChatGPT, then asked them to rate the counseling based on empathy, cultural sensitivity, helpfulness, and emotional connection. The team and listeners share whether or not they will trust an AI for therapy.
