Blog—May 22, 2024-10-11-It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show---touched ground that sometimes doesn’t get considered. The mid-week show before the Memorial Day Weekend did some different considering this week.
Jaime Wood---SBA of South Dakota---and Joni Eckstrom SD Biotech---led off the show---we talked a little bit about innovators—and working together-----
We are fortunate with our leading ladies in Sioux Falls that Jaime-Joni-and Sadie naming three –that we can travel well---and with Candi Briley---and the SD State Fair—that works out. Mitchell would seem to be the one that is a do not miss as well.
That’s looking ahead----yes we are getting warmer---and we have people we like to follow along and see—and report on and we will.
We had a chance for Jaime to make her points in this show with SBA Projects—working together with all those areas that have our attention. For us it’s not just about Sioux Falls---but points of interest for our listeners.
Steve Kolbeck---Excel Energy talked with us about the Energy---what we should think about—and where we should be going. Obviously the costs---the storms---have us all watching and Excel is good enough to keep us posted on usage—and we always want to know ways to help our listeners say on their electric and other energy usage. They are smart people---and they know when they can help their customers----its easier to go around town, the county and even more slots.
Candi told us about the events before the fair this summer---Wheel Jam---Barrel Racing----and we are just 100 days or so away for the Annual South Dakota State Fair. Can’t wait.
Mary Michaels---one of my favorites—gave us some updates on AARP/s ---she even stayed after school with Jordan Deffenbaugh and that gave us some insights on events-----
There was work of a package of content from the AARP Fraud Watch----AARP and Falls Area Bicyclists -----
Jordan Deffenbaugh---shared tool library---community revitalization  collective—and a pancake feed on June 1st in the Whittier neighborhood. And part of the fun---kids planting trees----
We also heard a report from Holiday Travel that may surprise you---nearly 154,000 South Dakotans will travel 50 or more miles from home this Memorial Day Weekend. 132,382 will be traveling my car---yes 86.7%.
There are road trip costs to plan for ----
Average gas price in SD is about $3.30 a gallon—trending 30 cents less than the national average and placing South Dakota as the 14th lowest gas prices in the nation.
After a rise in prices earlier this spring, prices have fallen and stayed fairly stable in recent weeks—putting SD average price 10-15 cents LOWER than a year ago.

Things to do before traveling to save money on gas:
Get your vehicle checked out---and yes use your owners manual---remember a clean engine air filter can help improve gas mileage.
Keep tires properly inflated. Under-inflated tires can decrease your gas mileage by 3%. And of course properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.
Know your octane—do not purchase mid-grade or premium gas unless your owner’s manual specifically recommends it.
Hate to do it-but observe the speed limit—gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds about 60. Each 5 mph you drive over 60 is like paying an additional $.15 a gallon---and yes using the cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and in most cases will save gas.
Drive sensibly---and minimize drag. Drag reduces fuel efficiency—driving with the windows open, using roof-or rear mounted racks and carrying heavy loads increases vehicle drag.

We closed the show with Justin Glison—Iowa Climatologist---gave us the update on the tornadoes and severe weather in my home Hawkeye State. Scary moments particularly in Greenfield----and reporters often approach some-one for an awkward moment---to ask about losing their home---or neighborhood. Iowa got a lot of that. We have family there---we grew up there---and our times to Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin---were tough too.

Lisen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson will have this posted early Friday-----with the podcast---use these notes as a guide to what is in the show---and in essence where to find it.
