Blog-June 18, 2024-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show kept a lot of balls spinning in the air on this Special Day in June.
We opened the show as the final hours are being completed at Yankton Trail Park---a big national soccer event with 170 or 180 teams starting last Friday—concluding today.
Teri Schmidt—Experience Sioux Falls has helped us promote---and brag about this while at the same time welcoming 7000 or so people to Sioux Falls---all looking to get their teams to Wichita Kansas in July. It was our job to let you know about it—talk about what the committee was doing—including Frank Gurnick—who joined us for a number of interviews –reminding us about the importance of soccer and how we can get them back in 2026.
Hotel rooms were challenged---and some reports indicated people were staying as far away as Sioux City and to Brookings and beyond. Our job to let you know—cheerlead---and hopefully make them feel wanted to come back to Sioux Falls in 2026.
Yes there was some rain---yes there was some lightning but a city crew prepared the fields—so we could stay outside –with challenging rain showers—and make sure that the visitors knew we could do more than just shake hands and smile. The event will be completed with 28 teams qualifying for the next event in July. Teri and Frank made quite the difference---and as communicators ---we used our show and media to make a contribution.
Jaime Wood—SBA of South Dakota joined us as well around quite the event they were working with Hyvee on today. Jaime explained the event—may the welcome to small business---and then shared that she had accepted a job in DC—that will work with farmers—and obviously will continue to work with people not only in South Dakota and neighboring states---but Farm Agencies---that we believe could use her work standards. We’ll continue to include her from DC in future shows.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---talked to us about the planning they are doing for those in business, in agriculture---the families---and our job is to let the audience know they are there to help, They will be helping us on road trips to the Dakota Farm Fest in Mitchell—and other stops. Planning is what it is all about.
Sarah Heinrich—Growing Harvest Network helped us in end the first half hour—with Fargo farm facts. Yes she is part of the Midwest Communication Team.
Matt Swenson---gave us the morning commodity reports----and yes the big board on Wall Street.
We asked the request from Lynn Granger and American Petroleum Institute to be on our show. They support over 11 million US jobs in the natural gas and oil industry. Granger is the Regional Director of American Petroleum Institute in the Midwest and Mountain West.
Among the topics—important energy policy, advocacy efforts and the voices from the energy economy that she so proudly represents in the regions.
Mr. Tree John Ball talked with us from the Black Hills this morning. Infestation of oak trees---the challenges the heat and the heavy rains bring. We even got into how the State Christmas Tree is chosen. There is a committee that takes the applications and nominations—they pick trees-but the final tree is selected by John Ball---Mr. Tree.  Tree also reminded us DO NOT MOVE FIREWOOD.
We heard from Justin Glisan—Iowa State Climatologist---he shared the concerns with the rain—severe weather and this week the heat.  Plenty of challenges as we approach the longest day of sunlight on Thursday. We appreciate Justin being with us---as we always do with South Dakota Climatologist----Laura Edwards.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—does talk agriculture—and things that are around it. We appreciate the experts sharing the things we ask them---all for the purpose of keeping our audience informed.
