Blog---May 17, 2024---9-10---It’s YOUR Business
One of those unusual mornings---we had Dave Austad scheduled to talk about the 2nd Major Golf Event of the year—PGA Championship in Atlanta.

In addition we had Police Chief Jon Thum---joining us just named the Heart of the City Award Winner.

So with the breaking world news ---the #1 Player in the World Scottie Scheffler---running an accident scene where a tour bus had hit and killed a walker---it made for an interesting scenario.

Chief Thum –did talk about how important this City is to him---and how much he appreciates being given the Heart of the City Award. He fits---he also fitted for what had happened with Mr. Scheffler---talking about accident scenes—buses---and listening to law officers. The Chief is not only the Heart of the City winner---but a golfer---and how he would have reacted to being involved in that kind of incident and then playing for a Major Championship.

Mr. Austad----had been watching---and following along---and he too said he might have had a lot of trouble playing golf of any kind after being handcuffed by the police---paraded thru the street----and being slapped with a 2nd degree felony.

Dave came back at the end of the 10:00 hour---and we updated Scheffler going 1 under for the first five holes and moving up from 12th to 9th.

Jodi Schwan also talked with me about the accident and the golf as well as few of her headlines-Sioux Falls Development with quite the National Opening, Schoeneman’s Becoming part of industry’s Largest Player, and fun housing-related stories including Sioux Falls Resident HGTV hosts heading downtown.

Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota---the key topic—her organization is marking the very first “National Scam Survivor Day” by launching a new online resource aimed at helping people who have been impacted by scams.

The Scam Survival Toolkit connects people with the information they need to help restore their financial, mental and emotional health. The online toolkit was made possible with support from two members of BBB Institute’s Corporate Trust Council –Amazon and Capital One.

President & CEO Jim Hegarty---shared “BBB” is offering a new Scam Survival Toolkit on our website to help people who are affected by a scam, helping them gain peace of mind and work toward their recovery.

Teri Schmidt---Chief Thum launched the 9:18 segment with Chief Thum—and we talked as well about the importance of the 187 teams ---coming to Sioux Falls June 14-18----and our hopes we will make people feel comfortable enough they want to come back in 2026.  Kip Rounds—SD Game Fish and Parks---said they will have a busy weekend at our state parks and with the Free Fishing Weekend, both of much run this weekend. Mr. Rounds shared they have an exciting state park expansion project that’s opening this weekend as well.

9:32---Ron Nelson –yes our Mr. Commercial Real Estate—talked with us today about the increase expected for Commercial Real Estate for fees. As Mr. Nelson (I call him OLE Nellie)---we talked about how it compares to the residential real estate fees and licensing for those buying and those selling residential homes. It was an open discussion-----and should be listened to by those in commercial real estate that want to have someone that represents them---and keeps the cost for buying and selling where everyone knows what to expect.

Diana Patterson Sanford Careers—gave us some inside looks at Sanford Careers in Sioux Falls and other locations. Diana has been with Sanford 15 years and she shares with our It’s YOUR Business—each Friday.
