Blog—June 28, 2024-9-10—It’s YOUR Business
Last Friday of June---and we had a lot of players telling some very interesting stories—
Jodi Schwan—Sioux Falls Business—dropping in a great lead for the show—Great Plains Zoo—added some critters --- thanks to a Sanford –Match---lions or was it tigers---but it makes our zoo even more exciting for those who live here and those that travel here from other parts of the country.
25 million contribution will make the zoo even better from T Denny Sanford. I know my twin grandsons here from St. Louis---who already like our Sioux Falls Zoo better than their own will be excited to check out the improvements when they get back from their first trip to the Black Hills this weekend. We’ll even let you hear from Collin and Conner---early next week.
We talked as well about the Full Service Restaurant Industry, Jones Building Update---and she talked about Mr. Disney---a nationally known travel agent with a very fun specialty.
We will hear from Jodi Schwan—in our blog and podcast of this show.
Jessie Schmidt---BBB of South Dakota---shared with us the concerns we should have about flood damage. Make sure you don’t get so overwhelmed that you don’t check out those that are propositioning you to do your repairs and replacement needs. More can be found at https://www.bbb.org/all/natural-disasters/flood.
Make sure everyone including pets are safe and accounted for. Carefully assess and photograph the damage to your property, including vehicles. Hold of on permanent repairs until you insurance company has granted approval to ensure reimbursement.
Work with people you know—not strangers that came into town and propositioned you----and oh yes keep all related receipts.
Consult BBB.org for credible contractors---read and comprehend all documents before signing, verify that the contract explicitly states payment schedules project timelines and milestones. Listen for Jessie’s full report on the Podcast.
Teri Schmidt—Experience Sioux Falls---talked to us about events going on in our City---what to expect---and when looking to promote the City’s Projects—work with the official Experience Sioux Falls Company. She explains their contacts and what they do in our community to promote what is coming and what you need to know. Don’t get fooled by some outsider not chosen by Teri and her team.
Kip Rounds—SD Game Fish and Parks—talked to us about the recent floods in SE South Dakota and what we might see with the Pheasant Population. We include GFP to keep us in the loop with the great outdoors and the treasurers. Kip and GFP do a great job for those that want to hunt---to enjoy time---and really deserve to get a good season ahead. More next week.
9:32---Ron Nelson—Nelson Commercial Real Estate talked with us about the first half of 2024---what we expected---didn’t really happen to the degree we hoped---he tells a story about what we hoped would happen and where we are at the end of June. The prediction in January was a “great year”----but for the first 180+ days we have been a little short of that---however as you will hear from Ron some things are evening out---and we’ll continue to report in the weeks and months ahead.
9:45---Dave Austad—Mr. Golf was in Okoboji---where the waters have caused quite a bit of grief for those with cabins and homes. He explained that dock posts are moving---and yes a few prayers are needed.
We talked about golf---he likes the Spencer Course---and of course golf at any-time. We talked about with my son Chad---we pulled an upset in the Father-Son, Mother-Daughter---relations golf event for Father’s Day---Chad and I actually won our flight by 3 strokes and he was amazed that at my age—I could still play----and did. He even invited me to play this weekend with his friends that don’t always accept older---less accurate golfers in their weekend games. Glad I’m still on the list.
Dave---talked about Sr’s Event coming soon---and some other big events including an Austad—Tournament that always gets high marks.

British Open is coming----and we’ll keep an eye on that as well.
Diana Patterson---Sanford Career Opportunities talked to us today about I-T Career Opportunities---not only Sioux Falls but across their wide territory. We always enjoy working with them and help them get the help they need -where they need it.
