Blog-July 1, 2024-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our Agri Business Show took off where the Remodelers Show 9-10 finished.
We talked about the Building Permits Figures in Sioux Falls—and today with Lincoln County’s Jim Schmitz—and Teri away for a 4th of July event in the Black Hills---we had Ron Nelson---our Commercial Real Estate guru—providing a balance with Mr. Chuck Sutton---Sutton Auctions. Obviously concerns---the floods—the rain----and what is it doing to the market-place.
Chuck shared as we heard in the hour before that there are Iowa---South Dakota and Minnesota Communities that are seeing sales and buying concerns that has to include the abundance and over-abundance of rain.
The sales do go on----yes there are concerns in not only Iowa—but a Lincoln County----was severely impacted by the June rains and subsequent flooding. Canton for instance had one reference from Mr. Sutton that had to buy a freezer last week along with a washer and dryer—he was thankful the furnace and AC survived.
You’ll want to listen to the podcast and here the discussion between Mr. Auction and Ron Nelson. They brought into prospective the seriousness and frequency of this events.
Big concern if home owners insurance doesn’t cover the water damage—it multiplies the hardships for families.
Old Nellie---talked about the trends he sees in Commercial Real Estate---and the next time we talk---we’ll ask about how many of those land sales that Mr. Sutton has are having the land leave the agriculture arena for commercial properties. The last time we checked—we were seeing more and more of that with each quarter-and year.
Mr. Lincoln County is OK---but he is far enough away---in the Hills—we couldn’t get him engaged. We’ll get him between now and the next Sutton-Schmidt—event.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---helped us put to bed the first half of 2024---and look to all the people in agriculture, in business and residential regardless of age. They do have some farm shows coming up as well that will take us all on the road. Plains utilizes their golf carts---giving people much appreciated rides. We’ll be at many of the same events they are---and perhaps even get a ride ourselves.
Sarah Heinrich—Growing Harvest Network out of KFGO-Fargo—did her morning contribution to our It’s YOUR Business Show. She’s good at what she does and we are happy to call her Sister from our Northern Most Sister Station.
Matt Swenson----Swenson Commodities—with us---he gives us the morning farm quotes—the grains-the meat—and yes even the Big Board on Wall Street. We appreciate (as do our listeners) what he does and the accuracy and friendliness that he provides.
Danita Murray---SD Corn followed the grain numbers—and we talked about the growth of the corn with the heavy rains---the challenges those under water have—and the expectations in the market place with floods and standing water.
Bryson Patterson---SBA of South Dakota talked with Corey Williams this morning, we talked about how they work together---what we should be sharing with our audience-----and that we promise to keep a couple of eyes on what Corey and SBA can share.
Rock Nelson—Yes the ROCK report—visited with Stoen Mollman-Small Business Innovation Research –Program Director.
The organization started in 982---formed by Congress because they thought Russia—was going to out-innovate the US –thus the SBIR Program was born to create high-risk tech innovations.
   Among the services they share:
Business Value ADD
Business Development
Trouble Shooting
Cashflow analysis
Pitching
Startup Guiding
Government Navigation
Risk Migration
Grand Services

Startups need virtually everything---and they provide South Dakota Statewide and foreign owned registered in SD.
The organization was actually started 42 years old by Congress---

Justin Glisin---Iowa Climatologist---did the update on the flooding in Iowa—how it has affected the area communities---and where we are going from here.

It DOES rival the FLOODS of the early 1950’s in the Hawkeye State—and while we can look back and slosh thru the waters—he answered updates on what to expect for the 4th of July coming on Thursday.

Our It’s YOUR Business and Agri Business Shows are live from the studio—but for those that want to go back and listen ---Norm Anderson posts a podcast of each show----go to the KELO-AM Website—look for the 10-11—Show on July 1st.
