Blog—July 24, 2024—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday
   Working on Wellness Wednesday—gives us a chance to share medical information with you the audience—and for me to ask questions of people that can tell us things that we didn’t know.
    Take for instance our #1 guest---Dr. Sun DEW---a neurologist at Sanford Health—we were able to learn that they had received the “Get with the Guidelines” Stroke Gold Plus Award from THE American Heart Association for excellence in stroke patient care---
    What we wanted to know—what are the warning signs for a stroke---and we learned the acronym F.A.S.T. ---how strokes affect not just older patients but yes YOUNGER ones as well.
    The Sanford Difference—a commitment to reduce time between patient arrival and the treatment. Congratulations to Sanford---and if we can find a better mouse trap to lure in those of all ages to stay healthy---we’ll be happy to spend 8-10 on how to do it---and why!!
    Sanford is also working another project for tomorrow---Miracle Treat Day at Sanford Children’s Hospital thru the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
    At least $1 from every blizzard sold on Miracle Treat Day—July 25—go thru the Sanford Health Foundation to support kids at the Sanford Children’s Hospital. The funds raised support purchases of pediatric specialized equipment programs like child life and art therapy and direct child and family assistance.
    31 DQ’s in 25 cities in South Dakota and Minnesota—including 6 in Sioux Falls are participating---it expects to raise $120,000 this year and every year---and if you like ice cream from DQ---it’s even sweeter.
    Joe Kippley—City Health Director was with us—and this morning at 9:21 we talked about Dental needs in our community—along with a Screening program to get more dentists ---for people of all ages. Yes kids return to school in a month and we’ll continue to remind our audience---getting them checked to return to school helps you past the parent torch---of having them ready. 
    Director Kippley has been joining us in the first couple of months he has been in office----we will continue working with him---and next Wednesday we expect to have South Dakota’s Secretary of Health on our show. 
    We were happy to have Shelly Johnson---DakotAbilities on the show today—talking about what they give ---those that are helping with their labors—and their dollars. Quite the award they won---we were happy to get the inside information on who should be a part of it---and what they are doing already. We challenged them to bring some of their donors—or volunteers in to be a part of a monthly discussion---we’ll follow up on that for future months.
    We closed the show with Lisa Ottmar---the HELP LINE. She was suppose to be in Sioux Falls this morning---but that snafu with airports and on-line glitches kept her away in Virginia. We talked to her anyway---about the flight that kept getting delayed as well what she would have been visiting with us in Sioux Falls about. Lisa---as it turns out had to put up with me as part of the Home Builders and Realtors Association Boards in a few years ago. We know each other—we look for the best that would be built---sold---and today—those that truly need help as those calling the HELP LINE. I was happy to write her a letter of recommendation to be a part of the next Leadership Sioux Falls Class. I’ve written those letters before—but it meant a lot for me to write a letter for her to be quite the contributing member of this new class. She is good at what she does---and yes I need to be again with this Leadership Class.
