Blog-August 5, 2022—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

Our 10:00 Show takes you East and West-----two events that start today and tonight. Something that we have followed—we have promoted and educated our audience on why to go and what to see.

5PM today—The Sioux Empire Fair cranks up---Julie Hammer and Scott Wick have been working with us—and have served as our tour guides as we counted down the days –every month in 2022.

Today---Julie gives us a look to the events of tonight---Saturday and Sunday---plus information on ticketing—and little things that you should know about.

Yes there are some changes on building----many, many trees have been destroyed because of summer storms---so there are stopping points to stay cool. We’ll get that---and see how Julie is handling all that we expect in the 9 days. We will be live from the Fair 9-11 on Monday and on Wednesday. The Wednesday show leads into the Ag Appreciation Luncheon that begins around 11:00.

Our 10:00 Show---Wednesday---brings together leaders to talk about the importance of agriculture and what these good people bring to us every day ---

Mayor Paul Ten Haken, AG and Natural Resources Secretary Hunter Roberts, Congressman Dusty Johnson, Darren Hefty—AG PHD’s Sirius 147 Voice, and Jim Woster—Mr. Agriculture will appear without his guitar.

Generally we will have some of the exhibitors---some of those that visiting the Fair to ask questions as well.

In Sturgis –and West River---OFFICIALLY the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins today. Our tour guide is Rod Woodruff—the Buffalo Chip---he has been doing this for 41 years---and we’ll make sure we get some history as well as a look to what to expect this year.

Darren Hefty—AG PHD joins us at 10:20—on a Farmers Friday---among the topics PLANNED:

  • Bugs are a real problem---we’ll find out what kind -how many and what to do about it
  • It’s DRY---but HOW Dry
  • Many are working to get Grain Bins Ready
  • And it may be August 5th—but others are planning for NEXT Year

And there was no-one better to ask than Darren –on a release that went out nationwide---saying that Sioux Falls is the WORST City in the country for a Farmers Market---ranked 162nd----it doesn’t even give Sioux Falls and the area—SD and neighbors credit for all the farmers bringing their goods to market---that within a 100 miles of the City limits.

Same Survey shows the Average Annual Household Spending on Dairy Products as the percent of income is ranked 135th.

Around the half hour---Sarah Heinrich—KFGO Fargo—the Growing Harvest Network shares a story line or two----Matt Swenson—Swenson Commodities—gives us the morning numbers from the grains—the meats—the energy---and Yes the BIG BOARD on WALL STREET.

We talked about the Sioux Empire Fair’s start tonight at 5---but in the wings---South Dakota State Fair. Candi Briley will let us look ahead---and figure out why the stop in Huron in 2022---will be different and should be something we all look forward to around the Labor Day Weekend. There was one cancellation on an entertainment act---but Candi will help us with that.

Uncle Joe---on this First Friday—takes us thru what to expect this weekend---from the Levitt at Falls—The Old Courthouse Museum Summer Concert Series, the East bank Block Party---and a few stops like the Blarney Stone Pub ---Falls Park Farmer’s Market 8-1 on Saturday.

Jon Gaskins see the days counting down for the Canaries---we’ll talk about the season—Harry Canary makes a guest appearance---and we’ll look to the 2022 improvements—and plans for 2023.

Our last stop is with Alla---who has been talking to us about her family in Ukraine—what they are going thru---how she has picked up the gauntlet to help those there—and make us all aware of jus how bad it is.

After her Friday appearances---I get calls---people come up to me at restaurants, church, golf courses, and even my grandson’s ball games to talk about how we can help those in Ukraine.

One of those that called last week—actually found me at restaurant with Tony Bachman at noon Thursday. Joseph Hoerner—is working on the project and just wanted the audience to be aware---there ae a lot of good people out there—and I’m here to help.

He is working to get a National Christian Band Kutless to perform and is working to visit with our friend of ours—SDSU President Barry Dunn.

Alla is helping---we’ll help----and quite frankly it is  people like JJ that make me want to continue doing this show.

Listen live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—Streaming on Line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson will have the show available as a PODCAST by NOON on the day that the show runs live.  To find the podcast—go to the KELO-AM Website—look for It’s YOUR Business –in this case the 10-11 show—August 5, 2022. Use these notes as a guide to what is in the show and where to find it. One of my colleagues complains that I put out too many notes about the show. It is helps the audience---and our guests---I’ll continue typing up to 100 words a minute to get it out there and help WHERE and WHEN WE CAN!!!!
