Blog-April 29, 2024—10—11-It’s YOUR Agri Business
It’s YOUR Agri Business Show deals with ag and business---and we started this show with Jaime Wood-SBA of South Dakota---“Happy National Small Business Week”—

SBA HQ Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed and Region 8 Administrator Aikta Marcoulier are out in Rapid City---to kickoff National Small Business Week. Over the next couple of days they’re meeting up with Native American small business owners for a round table discussion at Black Hills Community Loan Fund, an SBA resource partner in with a couple of small business visited planned Monday and Tuesday.
In this show---they are holding a special shou-out to SBA SD Small Businessperson of the year—son & father team Nick and Greg Heineman—co-owners of Look’s Marketplace along with Small Business Persons of the Year from each state and US Territory-receiving the highest business honors in Washington DC. We’re proud of the Heinemans and grateful for all they do for the community and look forward to continuing to celebrate later this-on Thursday at 2PM at Look’s Marketplace.
There are many trainings available virtually this week and you can go to sba.gov/south dakota to register
10:18/00—we shared an FFA event---Gerri Eide led us into a discussion with Abby and Isabella ---they shared how Canton, Milbank, Platte Geddes and Wessington Spring will be competing later this year at the State Fair. We did talk with the two young ladies about the importance of this---what they had learned—and their hopes for to spread the safety stuff—far and wide across South Dakota.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---did a little planning with us. We were curious about the rain—enough already for many----but we wanted to know about events that Brent and his partners at Plains Commerce would be attending. Yes Fairs—farm shows and other events. I also suggested that perhaps those he helps plan with should be given a Brent “Baloun”.
Sarah Heinrich---Growing Harvest Network-KFGO Fargo gave us updates on what they are reporting on today and tomorrow—the last two days of April.

Matt Swenson---Yes Mr. Swenson Commodities---gave us the pattern to start the week with the grain—the meat—the energy-and yes even the BIG BOARD on Wall Street.

Casey Crabtree-yes one of the power players from the Legislature—did a little updating for us this morning.
He talked about the Executive Board Study Committees-one of the topics with concern---property tax assurance methodology--- Artificial Intelligence---and spending time state-wide looking at 14,000 or so headed to Ellsworth jobs for the families---and making a difference on them being welcomed into the base-the area and South Dakota.

Rock Report—the guest—Robb Peterson, President/Owner of Glacial Lakes Rubber and Plastics in Watertown.

The company produces footwear soles, safety products, industrial rubber components.

Mr. Peterson shared that company makes products so special---beating with their competitors provide. As we heard-they are the only one with adhesive applications—applying the latest molding technology to improve the efficiency and quality of the products---after getting started in 0 after Robb left Minnesota Rubber and Plastics.

Rock also talked about the Sunday—May 5th event at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 380 E 26th. 4PM ---

The Sioux Empire Brass Song and Dance featuring Mark Nelson will be playing. They are expecting to see 400 or so –a freewill offering will be taken and it is tax deductible.

Alla—our long time connection to Ukraine joined us to talk about the financial support the US and allies are giving to Ukraine. Still lots of daily bombing critical infrastructure is usually right in the middle of otherwise peaceful cities.

Her dad is now a newly licensed driver in SD after being licensed in Ukraine for 40 years-working as a drivers education instructor after he retired-he was worried about passing the driving test in the US—mainly because he worried he wouldn’t understand the instructors directions. Rules are-you can have an interpreter for computer test but not while you are behind the wheel.

Alla also concerned about not hearing from her cousin who has been missing for 10 days.

Alla encourages you to contact her—to answer questions you may have.

Justin Glisan—Iowa Climatologist joined us this morning---he said the rain for most of Iowa has helped ease the drought---but there are concerns about more severe, wet weather that could come this week.
