Blog—April 26, 2024—10-11 –It’s YOUR Ag Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show-crossed a lot of ground on this last Friday of April-----in our Agri Business Show.

Darren Hefty-Ag PHD who does a Finally Friday Show on Sirius 143 or is it 14? It’s at 2:00 and as I travel—I hear from people in a number of other states about what he does---how he takes calls and really knows agriculture. You can bet there will be a few references about South Dakota and neighboring states as well.

Today we talked about the young people---maybe kids and +age---that are getting involved---want to be a part of the ag side of things---and I threw in the hundreds that added up to thousands that attended the State FFA Convention last week just up the road in Brookings.

We also talked about what to plant now corn or beans if you could only do one first. We flipped a coin—it came up -plant beans first.

Right behind was Terry Ebright---Sioux Valley Energy—he told we had just passed National Work Zone Awareness Week----now SVE is promoting Road Safety (yes radio, TV and Social Media this weekend.

He suggests keeping hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and be aware of work zones—planting season----and farmers heading to the field.

If you are a farmer—don’t join the circle of those that get their rigs tangled up with power lines. It’s also the construction season----and you should call 811 before you dig.

Oh yes and you should hand-dig around mark lines.

When we have him back on Monday’s show we’ll ask him about what is the number one thing farmers can do to avoid contacting powerlines? And what should a farmer do if they would hit a powerline, pole or a green box?

Safety is a big deal for us---we want to keep you alert—we want to keep you listening---and not lose you because you forgot to pay closer attention.

We had Joe Batchelor—Downtown Sioux Falls infiltrate our Ag show today. But we have a lot of folks that pay close attention to agriculture—being the number one industry in South Dakota.

Joe was sharing some of the events downtown----and how you are always welcome. Joe keeps us posted each week on where to go—what there is to do----and when you can do it.

Sarah Heinrich—Growing Harvest Network—we feature—even though they are out of Fargo. Afterall—you take care of your sister stations like KFGO.

Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities---gives us the morning numbers—he didn’t really answer our question—if you could only plant beans or corn today and thru April---what would it be. We will get him to wrap what happened in April with the prices and what he expects in May.

Danita Murray---SD Corn joined us—she too really didn’t answer if you could plant corn or soybeans only in the next few days what would it be? We’ll keep asking and keeping asking to keep up with what Corn growers are doing.

Jerry Schmitz---SD Soybeans was with us. These two leaders of corn and soybeans do keep our listeners informed---what is happening in our fields in our political circles---and there hopes for 2024.

Jaime Wood SBA of South Dakota brought along Doug Napier—Owner, Jewelry by DeCory in Rapid City. Jaime did mention an important deadline coming up this Sunday-it’s for the SBA Thrive Small Business CEO/Leadership Cohort---they have room for 20 in this year’s class and have just a few select spots left---

Tis is a free six-month training that is a mixed platform training—there’s some online meetings as well as 8 in person meetings in Sioux Falls. Apply at sbathrive.com.

Laura Edwards—South Dakota State Climatologist took us thru what is expected this weekend----how wet we are—what we might expect for temperatures---and how we should close April---and swing into May.

Allen Unruh—who with his wife Leslee—and the Alpha Center Staff is hosting their annual Dinner tonight. All designed to help answer questions for those asking on pregnancies and what they should do. Its never an easy to call---and the decision after asking questions should be up to those involved. Something they have been doing there for 40 years.
