-----SMACK DAB in the Middle is where we put Mr. Downtown Sioux Falls Brandon Hanson---with a look ahead at what you ought to consider for today, tomorrow and beyond…..
We’re heading into the final weekend of August, and Downtown has a nice mix of live music, art, and a very good reason to revisit the 8th & Railroad area.
Friday
If you’re looking for some live music Friday night, Wild Colonial Bhoys take the stage at Levitt at the Falls from 7:00 to 9:30. They’re a Minnesota-based Irish-American rock band that has been performing for decades, and, as always, the Levitt concert is completely free.
Saturday
For the coffee crowd, Club Presso is back at The Source Coffee Roastery Saturday morning from 10:00 to noon. The concept is pretty simple: coffee and a live DJ playing house music. It's a fun, different way to start a Saturday Downtown.
Saturday is also your last chance to see the All My Relatives Group Exhibition before it closes. The exhibition is part of the Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ All My Relatives Festival and has been on display throughout August. There will be a closing reception Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., so if you've been meaning to see it, this is the weekend.
Sunday
Sunday afternoon, Wood Grain Brewing Company has live music with Nick Burke beginning at 2:00 p.m. Grab a drink, find a seat, and enjoy a pretty relaxed way to wrap up the weekend.
And one Downtown update I really want to emphasize this week.
8th Street is officially open again.
It's been a long construction project, and while the finished infrastructure is important for Downtown, construction can be incredibly difficult for the small businesses living through it.
So consider this our invitation to rediscover the neighborhood.
Go have a meal at Roots of Brasil or R Wine Bar. Grab something from Queen City Bakery. Stop into Remedy Brewing Company. Then take some time to explore the other businesses throughout the 8th & Railroad area.
These businesses have spent roughly two months dealing with road closures, construction equipment, changing access, and a lot less normal traffic going past their doors.
The street is back open. Now we need to bring the people back.
If you've been thinking, "I'll get back there once construction is finished," this is your weekend.
And, as always, there's plenty more happening than I can fit into a few minutes.
You can find the full Downtown calendar at dtsf.com/events.
