Fitness: FAMREPS 2026: The fitness race bringing families, schools and communities together
When was the last time your entire family took on a challenge together, not to win, but simply to enjoy the experience? FAMREPS 2026 is bringing a fresh approach to fitness competitions by turning exercise into a celebration of connection, confidence and community. Taking place in Pretoria East on 28 November, this annual event invites children, teenagers, parents, teachers, friends and corporate teams to experience the benefits of movement together. From exciting tag-team family relays to competitive five-person challenges, FAMREPS is designed to encourage participation across generations while putting faith, family and community at the heart of the experience.
Joining Africa Melane on CapeTalk and Talk Radio 702, fitness and wellness presenter, endurance athlete and burnout and mental fitness coach Liezel van der Westhuizen explores why shared physical challenges can be so valuable for families. She explains the different FAMREPS race categories, how parents and children can participate together, and what team-based fitness competitions can teach us about resilience, communication and supporting one another. Liezel also reveals a memorable World Health Organization physical activity recommendation for children and teenagers, while sharing practical advice for families preparing for their first fitness event. Could the secret to raising more active, confident children be as simple as getting the whole family moving together? Event: 28 November 2026, Pretoria East, South Africa
