When we are well we have many problems, but when we're sick we only have one.
ADVENTURE WITH ME
Approjet production.
A team glenes are here walking back to the building in Humans Project podcast. I want to talk a little bit this morning to kick off our week about the importance of looking after your body. And I'm talking your physical health, but let's tie that into our mental health as well, because it's a definite correlation. I know, years ago when I was up in Townsville, I worked in a battalion where I was responsible myself in a couple of mates, for running the physical training for one of the companies. The four companies in a battalion, so we had about one hundred to one hundred and fifty soldiers that we were responsible for making sure that they were physically fit enough to do their job, physically fit enough to go to war effectively. And when we deployed, we noticed definitely the people that were physically in good shape. And I'm not talking being an athlete here, I'm just talking about people who turned up regularly to physical training, who looked after themselves more than they didn't. Because the army is a place where people drink heavy, they party heavy, but they do their job as well. But you still have a few people that just don't quite toe the line and spend a lot of time on what they call chits, which is like a medical exemption to get away with not doing certain work or certain physical things. Some of these are legit, but a lot of them are not. And we notice a correlation between those who were physically well and physically healthy and their mental strength when it came to deployments, because deployments are tough. You're away from your family, you're away from your lifestyle. You don't have the capacity to just do all the things that you get to do in your home. You're at war. And so of course, even if you've never been to war, I'm sure you understand the intensity of that and how hard that can be. So working in the physical field, and had to mate Solca and to mat Willow, Kyle Williams and Dave Tolson who helped run these and we noticed the correlation when we went outfield. And I was listening recently to a guy talking about the fact that when you are well physically well, you have thousands of problems. There's all the stuff going on in life, in business and so on, And think about yourself right now, all the challenges in your life, if you're in business or if you're in a leadership role. What are all the challenges that you have in your personal relationship at home? There's all of these things. But then he says, when you become unwell, when you become sick, you only have one problem, and that is to get healthy. Because when you're sick, you can't do anything else. And unfortunately, for a lot of us, we're not motivated or inspired enough to look after our physical health until something goes wrong. Because I promise you this, if you end up in hospital or your health is really poor, all of those other problems go away. It's actually a privilege to have all of those other problems, and you lose that privilege when you lose your physical health and to some capacity, your mental health as well. So this isn't encouragement to you to start to look after your body, to start to find reasons to do the best that you can by yourself on a daily basis, not becoming an athlete, not becoming obsessed into one two three hours a day of gym. I know a lot of us don't have time for that. When I don't train as much as I should, I make sure that my diet is pretty on point. Now I eat whatever I want, but I don't overeat and that's what allows me to stay pretty active. And I'm fairly active anyway. But it's really really important to understand that my physical health means a lot to me. And if you don't have time to look after it now, you're going to have to find time to be sick later. And that, to me was a real inspiration to even think about that, and I want to share that with you today, and I hope at some level this inspires you to start to do the right thing by yourself, by the people around you, by the business or the leadership, you know, people that look up to you for those roles. Look after yourself and find ways to be in the physical best shape that you can. Don't abuse your body with alcohol, with food that's not good for you. If you're not exercising as well, you don't get to look after yourself in one area and not the others, or you don't get to look after yourself in none of those areas and expect things to go well. So here's a little place for you to kick off. You're a wake.
As long as your body is healthy. You have thousands of problems, but in the moment, your body gets sick. You have one problem. That's really true.
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
That's why I mean, first of all, before like tackling everything or how to build up your life and how to whatever do, make sure your body stays healthy. If the body is not healthy, you don't need to go about anything else. So respect, take care and love your body. Nourish your body, and nourish yourself in such a way that you understand it's something right now, very very precious to have. Okay, this is number one.
