Boerne Radio News - September 18, 2023

View descriptionShare

It’s Monday, September 18th.

The last town crier in America died on this date in 1929.  His name was Julius Myers who moved from New York to Luling Texas then San Antonio in 1911 to go into advertising.  For 15 years shouted out the news from his horse Tootsey. Then San Antonio City Council banned city criers in 1926 with the advent of radio, but Julius made a comeback with the condition he could only advertise baseball games and Tootsey had to stay in the barn. When he passed, it made national news…and still making news on Boerne Radio.

I’m Baron Wiley.

Over the weekend Jennifer McCall announced her intentions to run for Kendall County Commissioner in Precinct 1.  She’s running as a fiscal conservative Republican with a priority list that includes law enforcement, fire protection, roads and bridges, health and safety and natural resources.  The seat is currently held by Christina Bergmann.  Jennifer McCall has lived in Boerne for 30 years with her husband Andrew and 4 children.  Early voting for the primary starts February 20th, 2024, and election day is March 5th.

Shout out to our own Lt. Chris Walk of the Boerne Police Department, who just graduated from the FBI National Academy last week. And for the record only the top 1% of law enforcement officers are invited.  He’s the 5th officer from the Boerne PD, and current graduates include Chief Perez and Assistant Chief Cody Lackey.

TxDOT says they will be doing some mowing, and painting around I-10 so heads up…

For that mowing, single westbound main-lane closures are happening today from 46 to Fredericks Creek.  The painting is happening between 46 and Scenic Loop so there will be single lane closures on the frontage roads in both directions and expect rolling main-lane closures in both directions between Scenic Loop and Fredericks Creek.

And let's check in quick with Dusty Rhodes who’s on foot today with a look at Boerne Radio Traffic.

Dusty Rhodes: Report of two trucks with smoke coming out
