It’s Monday October 13th.

And it was on this date in 1792 that the cornerstone was laid in the construction of the White House.  And it was actually President George Washington who set that cornerstone and oversaw the project…but he never lived there.  The first resident was the 2nd President of the United States John Adams with his wife Abigail.

All City and County Offices will be closed today in observance of Columbus Day. Trash and recycling will continue as normal, and if you have any bulky items, they will be picked up this week as well. You can still call the Boerne Dispatch, and of course in an emergency, call 911. Regular city hours will continue tomorrow. 

The Boerne Chamber is closed today, but tomorrow they are hosting a ribbon cutting for Park Lane Jewelry. Following the ribbon cutting, Vernie from Boerne will be hosting a jewelry party to introduce guests to Park Lane! On Thursday the Chamber will host the ribbon cutting of the Sanctuary at 1:30. 

Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate additional state emergency response resources in anticipation of a growing wildfire danger across the state over the weekend. Additionally, the Governor amended and renewed the state’s wildfire disaster declaration, which now includes 179 counties including Kendall County. Abbott reminds you to monitor conditions throughout the week and to have a plan in case of emergency.

 Congratulations to Felton and Jenny Overbey - yesterday they celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary - they met in the summer of 1950 at the church were Jenny’s father was the minister.  After they started dating he got orders to go to Korea and he knew what to do…make Jenny his bride and he did 75 days after meeting…and here we are 75 years later.  Happy Anniversary Felton and Jenny Overbey. 

Also over the weekend some special birthdays of some friends of Boerne Radio - John Mark Crews, Chris Taylor owner of Taylor’s Ace Hardware…go buy a rake from him today - and a very special happy birthday to Boerne Radio’s Traffic Manager and Administration Director - Jen Staats!
