Headlines: Brady Chandler places, sets record in pole vault / Spurs on track for playoffs, defeat Houston / UT Women’s Basketball headed to March Madness

We start with Geneva track and field and a gifted athlete whose name we’ve mentioned quite a bit in the past few weeks- Brady Chandler. He was at Texas A&M for the Bluebonnet Invitational over the weekend among 39 other pole vault jumpers from around the state. He goes away with a bronze medal in the competition- and also claims a new personal and Geneva record with a pole vault of 15 '7". Incredible accomplishment for this young man. 

While on the subject of accomplishments- the time to be a fan of the San Antonio Spurs is now. The Spurs still sit at 2nd in the Western Conference, and have clinched a playoff berth this past week. They have not made the main field of the playoffs since 2019. What’s also interesting, and if you like numbers and facts, this is for you… the NBC telecast of the game against Houston suggested per season trends all time, that teams who win 40 games before losing 20, have the best odds of winning the Finals. San Antonio is 47-17 at the moment, so they have surpassed that point insurmountably. They are competing with two other teams in similar boats- Detroit and OKC. The Spurs beat Houston 145-120 with a game against Boston on deck tomorrow night at 7. 

And it’s March… cue up “One Shining Moment” as we get set for the college tournaments. Selection Sunday is next week, and conference championships have either already happened or are happening this week. UT Women’s basketball claimed the SEC title against South Carolina 78-61 on Sunday and will have the automatic bid into the tournament.
