And today is VE Day - Victory In Europe Day celebrating Germany’s unconditional surrender the previous day…recognized by the British and Americans.  Also born on this date in 1884 was Harry S. Truman…the 33rd President of the United States.  Also born on this date Ricky Nelson in 1940, Alex Van Halen turns 71, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire is 73, and Toni Tennille turns 84.

The Dienger Trading Company has been undergoing some much-needed renovations thanks to the City's initiative towards preserving important buildings in town, known as the Historic District Improvement Program. It provides funding of up to $14,500 per project and allocates about $35,000 per year in total. The Dienger building was in desperate need of repair, as there was rotting wood on the exterior of the building and is just one of many projects over the last 12 years that has preserved our beloved towns history. 

The GVTC Foundation has generously given out $47,500 in scholarships to three worthy graduating seniors in Boerne ISD.   Congratulations to Raahil Gadhoke, Davis Kuhn, and Rowan Klein…The award is split up into a $25,000 leadership scholarship, a $15,000 volunteering scholarship and a $7,500 vocational award. In total, GVTC plans on awarding over $200,000 in scholarships this year with the mission of making a difference in our Hill Country Communities.

And Ms. Melanie Gohn, a second-grade teacher at Fabra Elementary, was just selected as an H-E-B Excellence in Education San Antonio Region Lifetime Achievement finalist as announced at the annual banquet held by H-E-B for educators. Ms. Gohn was awarded a $1,000 check, as well as a second check for the same amount to Fabra.
