Well your Boerne Greyhounds and your Champion Chargers both deep in the playoffs - you heard the Champion Game here on Boerne Radio last night - the Chargers were down most of the game by a run as Kerrville Tivy struck first in getting on the board and then Gage Goldberg came to the plate in the bottom of the 6th…

Goldbergs double sets up another run so now they go into the 7th inning with a 2-1 lead…and lets hear it for pitcher Sawyer Smith who struck out a batter for the second out, and then for the 3rd Tivy Antler…

After the Charger game, we flipped over to the Greyhound Baseball Playoff Game 1 against El Campo - Boerne scored early - a 2 run home run by Hudson McNew plus another run making it 3-0 in the 2nd inning - El Campo came back score their own 2 runs -  Boerne scores 2 more in the 6th…which was your final score - Boerne wins 5-2 - and how about Pitcher Campbell Jackson - he played the whole game, only allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 7 El Campers…Game 2 is tonight right here on Boerne Radio - first pitch is at 5:30  - we go live at 5:15 with the pre-game show and interviews with both coaches.  Go Greyhounds!

Game 1 of a best-of-3 series between Boerne and Calallen was a competitive one for sure, and as heard here on Boerne Radio, Greyhounds were the first to strike with this bullet into center field by Hudson McNew…

Fast forward a couple of innings… Campbell Jackson is in trouble with the bases jam-packed with Wildcat runners, until this rare occurrence took place…

A 9-3-5 triple play to end that inning… you just don’t see that everyday.

4 scoreless innings would rapidly transpire… then we go to the 7th. Off an error by Boerne, and a few more Calallen hits, the Wildcats would break a 1-1 tie, making it 3-1. Boerne had no momentum in the bottom of the 7th and fall in game 1. 

The first time in these playoffs that the Greyhounds have been down after 1 game. Game 2 is tonight down in Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field. Polo Botello and I will be on the call. Listen live here on Boerne Radio at 6:45 as we get started with our pregame show.

It’s Friday May 31st. 

And it was on this date in 1919 that Conrad Hilton buys his first hotel.  He was going to buy a bank, but the deal fell through, so he bought the Mobley Hotel.  And so now you’re saying…who cares…but did you know that the first Hilton hotel was in Cisco, Texas which is just east of Abilene.

The winners of Boerne Lemonade Day have officially been announced after a successful competition featuring over 200 kids and 75 lemonade stands. This year, Youth Entrepreneur went to Bethany Aguilar from Seeds with Grace, and Best Tasting Lemonade went to Liam Bryant who ran Liam’s Lemonade R Us. Little Ladies Lemonade was crowned Best Lemonade Stand, and was run by Maddison and Lyanna Pheifer. You can see the full list of winners in our news blog at Boerneradio.com.

2nd Place – Tobias and Evangeline Rivas with The Lemon Lab

Best Lemonade Stand:

1st Place – Little Ladies Lemonade – Maddison & Lyanna Pheifer

2nd Place – Lemons & Giggles – Blakely Zamora, Evie Phillips & Juleen Virnau

3rd Place – Edens Garden – Eden Chacon

 Best Tasting Lemonade:

1st Place – Liam’s Lemonade R Us – Liam Bryant

2nd Place – Lovely Lemons and Treats – Amelia Buller

3rd Place – Mr. Golden Sun’s Lemonade – Beckham Goode

And two young girls who participated in the competition decided to put their community first by donating the money they earned on the day. The two girls who ran the Happy Little Lemons Lemonade Stand donated 290 dollars to our friends at Hill Country Family Services. Great job girls on being fantastic businesswomen and helping others. 

Boerne ISD honored their Guest Teachers / Substitutes of the Spring Semester, highlighting individuals who made a difference in a multitude of classes over the last five months. Congratulations to Cheyl Sanin and Tracy Adair from Champion, Martha Fluitt from Boerne Middle North and Kari Abbott from Fabra Elementary School.

Tonight is the night - game 1 between Boerne and Calallen will be live here on Boerne Radio. Bobby Stautzenberger and I will have the call from SAISD. So you just sit back, relax, and enjoy some regional final baseball. Remember, the Greyhounds are one round away from heading to the state tournament! Coverage will start at 6:45 with the pregame show and first pitch at 7.

Two Boerne athletes are on this year’s All-Area Teams for Golf from the Express News. Phoenix Guerra from Boerne Champion, who finished 7th at state, and Jace Hulett from Geneva who won his 2nd-straight state championship. Hulett is also a finalist for Golfer of the Year by the publication. 

Speaking of golf, a Champion alum is making her talent known at St. Mary’s University. Savannah Dupre had an unforgettable week in the DII world as the women’s Rattler team were national runners-up in the finals. They earned the cool little NCAA trophy and everything, but aside from the hardware that comes along with it, the accomplishment is quite valuable itself. 

Another San Antonio university made history yesterday - Our Lady of the Lake University’s softball program, dominant all season long, defeated Jessup (California) in the final game 2-0 at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Georgia, to clinch the school’s first ever NAIA Red Banner across all their athletics programs in the 129 year history of the institution.

In the College Softball and Baseball World Series for Division I, the double elimination round begins today with UT Austin in softball facing off against Stanford. Texas has the best-seeded record with 52-8. Baseball, still in the regional rounds, has a few teams from the Lone Star State still dancing- 3-seeded Texas A&M faces Grambling, Dallas Baptist next faces West Virginia, and UT Austin faces Louisiana. These games will begin tomorrow.
