BBB - American Legion Post 313 Boerne - Feb 2021 - Final

The Boerne girls basketball team wishes everyone a happy new year with a photo they posted yesterday of the players forming the digits in 2026 with an exclamation mark following. Basketball games are set to resume this upcoming week. 

And another Geneva football player earned huge honors following the season- Chase Doran was named 1st team all district for wide receiver, 2nd team all district for the secondary, and Honorable mention all state for wide receiver. 

Texas Tech got shut out in the college football playoffs - by Oregon. A silent but deadly team all year, the Red Raiders lose 23-0 to the Ducks and are eliminated. Rice and Texas State play today in the Armed Forces Bowl. Kickoff is at noon.

 It was on this date in 1521 that Martin Luther is excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Leo X.  After being declared an outlaw, Martin Luther was hidden at Wartburg Castle, where he used the alias "Knight George" to translate the New Testament from Greek into German, completing it in 1522, and helped standardize the German language, with the full Bible published in 1534.

According to the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children site, Westin Pridgen of Boerne is no longer listed as missing.  The 15 year old was reported missing and last seen on December 28th.  The original social media post was shared over 2000 times. If you have any more information, please contact the Boerne Police at (830) 249-8645

And it’s that time of year, tickets for Empty Bowls Hill Country are now available for purchase. This event raises awareness and funds for hunger with the help of local artists and restaurants. Each $25 ticket allows you to select a unique and beautiful bowl, as well as choose a to-go bowl of soup. All proceeds will go on to benefit Hill Country Family Services Corner Cupboard and Kendall County Women’s Shelter.  The event will happen on February 21st at the First United Methodist Church.

Today, the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is hosting a blood drive at Rolling Oaks Mall in Northeast San Antonio, and if you donate, you will win 2 tickets to the Spurs vs Portland Trailblazers on January 3. Walk is are welcome, but if you would like to save you’re spot, you can visit southtexasblood.org/spurs.

The Boerne Police and Fire Department want to remind you to celebrate responsibly tonight. Do not drink and drive, have a designated driver or a rideshare ready.  

Never light fireworks under the influence of alcohol.  Another reminder that fireworks are off limits in Boerne on top of the illegal fireworks on the list, drench your spent fireworks in water before going to bed, and do you know what the number 1 cause of vehicle fires at this time last year?  It was people storing unused or spent fireworks in their car!  

Besides their big party tonight, Tapatio Springs is hosting a Polar Plunge on Friday.  Show up to the Double L Pool at the resort between 10 and 1pm, and come dressed in you bold and creative outfit as there are prizes for the best costumes.

If one of your resolutions this year is to volunteer more, here’s an idea.  Triple H Equitherapy is hosting a volunteer training on January 3rd. The program supports children and adults with physical and cognitive challenges, as well as veterans and at-risk youth, as they work toward achieving their fullest potential through a connection with horses.  No previous experience is necessary; call 830-510-9515 to sign up.
