The Boerne girls basketball team wishes everyone a happy new year with a photo they posted yesterday of the players forming the digits in 2026 with an exclamation mark following. Basketball games are set to resume this upcoming week. 

And another Geneva football player earned huge honors following the season- Chase Doran was named 1st team all district for wide receiver, 2nd team all district for the secondary, and Honorable mention all state for wide receiver. 

Texas Tech got shut out in the college football playoffs - by Oregon. A silent but deadly team all year, the Red Raiders lose 23-0 to the Ducks and are eliminated. Rice and Texas State play today in the Armed Forces Bowl. Kickoff is at noon.

It’s Monday, January 5th.

And it was on this date in 1941 that James Otto Richardson - born in Paris Texas, was relieved of his command of the United States Naval Fleet by President Franklin Roosevelt.  He supervised the transfer of the Pacific Fleet from the mainland to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Richardson strongly opposed the transfer, believing that the fleet was not prepared for war with Japan. Throughout the move, he urged Roosevelt and the Navy to reconsider the relocation.

After being relieved, Roosevelt offered the job to another Texan…Admiral Chester Nimitz, who declined the position at that time.  He accepted it

10 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Congratulations to Comfort, Texas, for being recognized as a National Register Historic District! The Comfort Heritage Foundation announced yesterday that the city, which has more than 100 buildings built between

1854 and 1954, made the U.S. Federal Government's official list of sites deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance. You can pop in to the Archives and Museum also known as the Old Comfort Bank on High Stree,t on Tuesdays from 9 to noon, and on Saturdays from 10 to 3.

 

 

Today is the first day that WM will be picking up your recycling and trash on the same day. Before you roll your bins out, remember to space them at least three feet apart and face them with the handlebars and wheels facing your home. For most of Boerne, your original trash day will stay the same. For Herff Ranch, your Tuesday trash will now be collected on Thursday.

 

And the City of Boerne is looking to help locals who face issues with reading your online content, whether that be from sight impairment or language barriers. Boerne is now providing a customizable screen reader on their pages through ReciteMe, offering text-to-speech with simple playback controls. It boasts a natural voice, 35 different language options and MP3 downloads.

Boerne Radio Sports!

Soccer is in full swing this year and you’ll be hearing quite a bit of news from the pitch here on Boerne Radio Sports. Greyhound girls in the Northside ISD Tournament did amazing- they shut out a few opponents including Harlan, 2-0 and Marshall, 6-0. 

Another Geneva football star earned TAPPS honors. In fact, he earned 3 and is well deserving of the trifecta. Reid Aderholt is a 1st-team all district wide receiver, 1st-team all-state wide receiver, and 2nd-team all state secondary honors. 

The Cowboys end their season with a loss, 34-17, to the Giants. Dallas’ disappointing season comes to an end. But, if you’re a Texans fan, a different story- to begin with, Houston gets the 38-30 victory over Indianapolis. Next Monday, the Texans will play the Steelers in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs. Can Houston reach a Super Bowl feat this year? We shall see.

The Silver and Black, the San Antonio Spurs lost to Portland Saturday, 115-110. They’ll be in action again tomorrow night against the Grizzlies in Memphis at 7.

 It was on this date in 1521 that Martin Luther is excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Leo X.  After being declared an outlaw, Martin Luther was hidden at Wartburg Castle, where he used the alias "Knight George" to translate the New Testament from Greek into German, completing it in 1522, and helped standardize the German language, with the full Bible published in 1534.

According to the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children site, Westin Pridgen of Boerne is no longer listed as missing.  The 15 year old was reported missing and last seen on December 28th.  The original social media post was shared over 2000 times. If you have any more information, please contact the Boerne Police at (830) 249-8645

And it’s that time of year, tickets for Empty Bowls Hill Country are now available for purchase. This event raises awareness and funds for hunger with the help of local artists and restaurants. Each $25 ticket allows you to select a unique and beautiful bowl, as well as choose a to-go bowl of soup. All proceeds will go on to benefit Hill Country Family Services Corner Cupboard and Kendall County Women’s Shelter.  The event will happen on February 21st at the First United Methodist Church.

Today, the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is hosting a blood drive at Rolling Oaks Mall in Northeast San Antonio, and if you donate, you will win 2 tickets to the Spurs vs Portland Trailblazers on January 3. Walk is are welcome, but if you would like to save you’re spot, you can visit southtexasblood.org/spurs.
