Boerne Radio Sports!

Soccer is in full swing this year and you’ll be hearing quite a bit of news from the pitch here on Boerne Radio Sports. Greyhound girls in the Northside ISD Tournament did amazing- they shut out a few opponents including Harlan, 2-0 and Marshall, 6-0. 

Another Geneva football star earned TAPPS honors. In fact, he earned 3 and is well deserving of the trifecta. Reid Aderholt is a 1st-team all district wide receiver, 1st-team all-state wide receiver, and 2nd-team all state secondary honors. 

The Cowboys end their season with a loss, 34-17, to the Giants. Dallas’ disappointing season comes to an end. But, if you’re a Texans fan, a different story- to begin with, Houston gets the 38-30 victory over Indianapolis. Next Monday, the Texans will play the Steelers in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs. Can Houston reach a Super Bowl feat this year? We shall see.

The Silver and Black, the San Antonio Spurs lost to Portland Saturday, 115-110. They’ll be in action again tomorrow night against the Grizzlies in Memphis at 7.

And born on this date 226 years ago in the year 1800 was the 13th President of the United States - Millard Fillmore. 

And looking at the Boerne Radio Birthday Calendar happy birthday to Mandy Jones out on the Jones Christmas Ranch…Mr. Rod Townsend with Go Heeled Firearms Training, and Mr. Ryan Sanders.  If today is your birthday, you share it with Kenny Logins who turns 77, and Kathy Valentine bass player for the Go Go’s is 66. 

 

The Kendall County Jr Livestock Show is taking place this week, and there are plenty of young cowpokes looking to show off their prized animals. So far they have crowned Avery Woerner as the Grand Champion Turkey exhibitor, Addison Scott as Champion Market Hog exhibitor, and Lillie Vogt for Champion Breeding Heifer exhibitor…and here’s what’s next for Lillie…

Also Trent Berny for his Champion Market Steer, and Pepper Pressler the Reserve Market Steer Exhibitor.  

Today the sheep and goats are showcased, and of course it closes out at the end with the big auction.

 

The major developer, Lennar Homes, has pulled it’s application for it’s subdivision that would have been built in Comfort. The national home builder rescinded its application from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and their plan to build an 1100-home neighborhood over just 580 acres. Comfort residents pushed backed when they learned the project would have dumped 600,000 gallons of treated sewer water into local creeks, which would flow directly into the Trinity aquifer.  Power to the people. 

 

If one of your resolutions this new year was to volunteer more, City of Boerne has some ideas.  Take advantage of your wellness by utilizing our beautiful Boerne parks and trails, or sign up for a league through Boerne Parks and Rec. Get a library card and start that book you’ve been meaning to, or rent a movie! And get involved in local government by witnessing a City Council meeting…the first meeting of 2026 is next Tuesday.

Two more Geneva football players earned honors. Shae McNew played both defense and offense this year. He earned 1st team all district for his running back role, 2nd team all state for the same position, and 2nd team all district as a linebacker. Mikhail Boespflug earned 1st team all district and honorable mention all state as an offensive lineman. 

The Spurs lost a close one to Memphis, 106-105. They’re back home in San Antonio to take on the Lakers tonight. Spurs are #2 in the west and the Lakers are #3. Tip-off is at 8:30 because of the national TV schedule.

President Theodore Roosevelt suddenly died on this date in 1919 at the age of 60 from a blood clot, and in 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his Four Freedoms speech during the annual State of the Union Address - that everyone in the world ought to enjoy freedom of speech and worship, as well as freedom from want and fear. 

 

This Friday you will notice that Champion has a few more law enforcement officers and first responders than their typical SROs. This increased activity is part of a planned scenario-based training exercise. City Park and surrounding roadways will be closed prior to and during the training, but no need to worry-there is no threat to the public. The goal of the exercise is to more effectively serve the community. 

Also welcome the newest member of Boerne Police Department, Officer E. Hernandez. He was sworn in by Chief Perez yesterday morning, so give him a big Boerne welcome if you see him around town. 

 

The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce is back in full swing this week with two ribbon cuttings! Tomorrow morning at 10 they will toast ACE Plastic Surgery at their location on Menger Springs, and then on Thursday at 11:30 is a 15th year celebration for Edward Jones Financial Advisor Amanda Reyes at her office on Herff Road. 

 

Thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Boerne Public Library program led by Caren Creech, seniors at the Center got to enjoy a special outreach program yesterday. Local artisan Jacque Stensrud of Comfort led a hands-on jewelry-making workshop, allowing members to get their hands working and their creativity flowing.
