Ask A Man 9 April '26: 'My mental health struggles are killing my relationship.'

Anonymous is/was in a long distance relationship with her partner. 

She doesn’t have a huge appetite and eats small portions. While she was recently visiting her partner they got into an argument because of her eating patterns, with him saying that her breath smells bad as result of her not eating enough. 

He then said he can’t live with the odour of her breath, she left his place, tried reaching out later to speak to him about this but he doesn’t seem interested in discussing the matter further.

He feels like his partner is “self righteous”, doesn’t give him an ear and always thinks she’s right in any conflict they have in their relationship. He also feels like she doesn’t give him space to express his emotions. 

They are always arguing and their conflicts have gone out of hand, even happening in front of their kids. 

He’s exhausted of this toxic relationship and environment they now find themselves in.

Along the way, he cheated on his partner about three times and he was caught each time. His wife then cheated on him in retaliation. Things got messy and about 5 years ago she left their married home with their children, but after two months away, she returned back to their home and they got back together.

Things have been ok for the last five years but they are struggling to rebuild trust in their relationship.
