New Zealand Cricket has confirmed its preference for the future of the domestic Twenty20 competition is a private franchise model. 

Cricket Wellington CEO Todd Byrant joined Adam Cooper to discuss what involvement the local association is set to have in the new competition, and what it means for the future of the Blaze and Firebirds.

Despite a midweek loss to Central Coast, the Wellington Phoenix women remain a mathematical chance of clinching the club's first Premier's Plate in the women's A-League. 

Currently second on the ladder, the club is guaranteed a maiden playoff appearance with two regular season matches remaining, starting with Sunday's match against Western Sydney at Porirua Park. 

To preview the match, Adam Cooper spoke with American defender Ellie Walker, who this week re-signed for another season at the Phoenix.

After a full season at Porirua Park, the Wellington Lions will return to the 34,000 capacity Hnry Stadium for their home NPC rugby matches in 2026.
