Zambian opposition leader Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, have been detained on allegations of treason after going into hiding following their rejection of the recent presidential election results. Authorities have accused the opposition figures of planning an armed insurgency, allegations they have denied.

The pair had sought refuge with the United Nations (UN) in the capital after security forces killed a former cabinet minister and arrested several opposition politicians during a raid. They were later detained after President Hakainde Hichilema reportedly pressured the UN to hand them over to Zambian authorities.

Lulu Gaboo spoke to Wisdom Mulizwa, the Deputy Legal Chairperson of the Citizens First opposition party in Zambia.
