Ghanaian activists will march to the Independence Square in Accra daily from today until Saturday (05 October 2024). This is part of demonstrations calling for the release of the protesters who were arrested on the 23rd of September and also to denounce illegal mining known as "Galamsey. The three-day action has been called under the slogans "FreeTheCitizens" and "SayNoToGalamsay. The protest action is expected to draw thousands of participants. It is now just over 100 days since the formation of the Government of National Unity popularly known as the GNU, and research organisation, the Social Research Foundation (SRF) has found that nearly 60% of South Africans believe the initiative will succeed.  The formation of the GNU was received positively by many, including investors and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) All Share Index has climbed by more than 10% over the past three months, soaring to new record highs. On the other hand, the Rand has also risen by nearly 6% to the dollar over the last 100 days. Lulu Gaboo spoke with political analyst Dr Levy Ndou to assess the 100-plus days of the GNU.

A High Court in South Africa has thrown a lifeline for victims of rape in South Africa after ruling that sections of the country's Sexual Offence Act were unconstitutional.

The judgement is still to be confirmed by the country's highest court, the Constitutional Court.

If confirmed it will mean persons accused of sexual offences can no longer use "the belief that consent was given" as a defence against rape allegations.

They have to make certain that consent is given.

A crucial step against gender-based violence in a country that has seen nearly 9500 cases of rape reported between April and June 2024.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of consequences following an attack by Iran, where it fired about 200 missiles at Tel Viv.

Iran's mission to the United Nations, says the attack was a legitimate response to terrorist acts.

This is the second attack by Iran this year after it fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in April.

The United Nations Security Council is set to convene in an emergency session on the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
