South Africa's Water Crisis Deepens as Failing Infrastructure Strains Supply

View descriptionShare

Researchers and experts warn that South Africa is facing a water crisis, a problem that has been years in the making. The country's drinkable water crisis is driven by collapsing municipal infrastructure, rampant leakage, and poor governance. 37% of its treated water is lost before it reaches consumers, while 105 municipalities are grappling with a failing infrastructure. Government says it needs about 24 billion dollars to rehabilitate the water and sanitation infrastructure across the country. This has led to an increased and prolonged water shedding. Peter Ndoro spoke Prof f Stanley Liphadzi, Acting CEO at the Water Research Commission (WRC) in South Africa
