British Council Expert Discusses Multilingualism and Literacy Policy Across Africa

Researchers and experts warn that South Africa is facing a water crisis, a problem that has been years in the making. The country's drinkable water crisis is driven by collapsing municipal infrastructure, rampant leakage, and poor governance. 37% of its treated water is lost before it reaches consumers, while 105 municipalities are grappling with a failing infrastructure. Government says it needs about 24 billion dollars to rehabilitate the water and sanitation infrastructure across the country. This has led to an increased and prolonged water shedding. South Africa's Water Crisis Deepens as Failing Infrastructure Strains Supply

On the eve of Nelson Mandela Day, a permanent monument honouring South Africa's first democratic president is drawing international attention from the Arctic city of Tromsø in northern Norway. Named iNkundla—the isiXhosa word for "place of gathering"—the installation was created by internationally acclaimed South African ceramic artist and co-founder of Imiso Ceramics, Andile Dyalvane. Commissioned by the Tromsø Municipality, the monument celebrates Nelson Mandela's legacy through a public space dedicated to dialogue, reflection, peace and human connection.
