On Makeup is My Therapy. I'm obsessed and I don't even feel guilty body. Hello, and welcome to you Beauty, the daily podcast for Your Face. I am Sarah Marie.
Fun I'm Kelly McCarran, and this is in Her Bag where we talk about what's in your makeup bag and our makeup bag and why.
Today we're talking about all signature looks mine yours. Everyone's the makeup vibe that defines.
You, from bold lips to glowing skin.
We're sharing our top looks and our favorite products, plus tips to help you absolutely nail yours. I had to find the liner in my bag, So what's the one makeup look that defines you?
When I think.
About there's not that many people I know that have a proper signature look. But the people that do, it's just so chic and so classic, and it must make it quite easy to get ready in the morning because they always know what they're gonna do.
I feel like sometimes you don't know your signature look. I feel like I see people I can tell their signature look, but.
They don't mean that is such a good point.
I think mine is at the moment it's become lashes. But I think for me it's always been my hair. My hair has always been my signature look, always.
Like had the long, long dark curls.
Yes.
Yeah, So that even with.
Your makeup, like if you rocked up wearing teal eyeshadow, I would be like, oh, that's a bit out of here, like left field. So I would say that you do have a signature look with your makeup, like very glowy but soft matte, beautiful soft brown, smoky eye, and either a new lip or you might do a fun, really bold bright red.
I love that. See, you know my signature. I do feel what I think your signature look is. I feel like you always have a small pop of color somewhere. You're the pop of color person, even if, like right now you've got purple nails and you've got this lovely rose goldie eye.
Did my makeup in the dark, So I actually don't know what colors on my lips.
It looks beautiful, looks beautiful, but you always have a little bit of color somewhere.
Well, what I was thinking because I was like, I really have no idea what my signature look would be, because I don't think that I have one. But I think that it would be that I have fun with makeup and hair, so no one would be surprised with anything I ever do. So I could have bright eye shadow of bright lips.
I could even do like art on my face.
I'll do braids, I'll do buns, i do down like I'm always ready to have fun. The only thing that's really consistent is probably my color of my.
Hair blonde, because I bried.
All of the different colors. I've literally been every color under the sun. But in terms of my skin tone, this is the color that suits me.
I was looking back at photos when I was younger, and I feel like, again it was my hair. But I used to love liquid liner as a liquid liner person. I don't do liquid liner anymore, and that no, I don't do it anyone on today. Yeah, you have a lovely liquid liner. Now I'm just like, I don't like a liquid liner on me anymore. Whereas that used to be my signature. Thing is like a nice wing.
Do you know what I used to do a lot of the time when I'd go out. I'd do like a top nod on my head and then I'd get like a little pouch of hair at the front and I just push it forward.
Like a little puff. That is so two thousands right. I kind of wish that nineties and two thousands right, It's really really suited my face. We used to do that too. You had it tied up and it was just like this ball little at the front. Use the like a puffins and actually put like a curling rod underneath the hair.
We need to tease it right, and you have to make it stay up afore.
If you will.
Oh my god, that's taking me well.
Coming up after the break, we are going to help some ubies improve their signature makeup looks.
How do you do it?
Come on, I'll show you.
Okay. So we did a call out on our socials for what your signature looks are and we got so many different responses. Here absolutely love these.
They all sort of fell into one of these next four camps. So we are going to go through each one and share the products or the tips or whatnot that we would recommend to elevate each look.
First up is a bold lip. Shall I go first? Please?
Do we both love a bold lip. It says the reds, the pinks, and the nudes that ever fail. I personally, I cannot think of one person where pink should be their signature lip color, only because you've got to have really white teeth, so you've got to be having like a perpetually good teeth week to pull it off every single day.
So I couldn't really think of a pink. I'm actually agreeing with you. The only time I've ever seen someone with a signature pink her whole deal. It's like a pop pink. She had like pop pink hair like, it was the whole vibe. Yeah, and it's not your everyday person. So it was more like, if you want like a pink loss or something on the top, you can get like a newd pink. So for me, in regards to a red though Sephora Collection original lip Stain liquid lipstick in O one, always Red. It's twenty four dollars, currently half price for twelve dollars. It's a long where matte liquid lipstick. It says stain, but it's actually one of those liquid lips. I don't find it drying. I've used this for a long time.
I don't find that formula drying either. It's really good. It's like a true red.
I feel like it suits a lot, whether you are a lighter skin tone or a darker skin tone. It's a really, really good wret. In regards to the nudes, at the moment, I am obsessed with the Nude by Nature Oh two nude lipstick. It's so creamy and it's like the perfect shade of neutral. I normally buy it at Big w and it's twenty four ninety five, but Chemist Warehouse habit for half price again for twelve dollars and forty seven cents, so I thought it'd share that just in case you wanted to try it out. I've got it on today. It's a beautiful gloss on top. I've got my darker lipliner around the edges, and I think it's great if you're again lighter skin or like my shade and a bit darker. It's a really safe one to go with. So what is on your well? A couple of choices here.
Whenever I think of a red that will be universally flattering for everyone, no matter what your skin tone is, it's mac ruby Woo. I mean, it's classic and it's cult for a reason. It's just so beautiful. It's like velvety matt. It doesn't smudge, but it's also not a liquid lip, so you will reapply it, but you don't have to do it that often. It is just such a beautiful shade. It's forty dollars, and what I do when I'm doing a red I'll actually use either a lipliner or an angled brush to really carve out the sides of my lips, just so it doesn't start to feather or anything.
I do feel like a liquid lip like the one from Sephora. I don't is a lip pencil because I like that, Yeah, exactly right. But I agree when you have a lipstick a bullet, Yeah, like a bullet lipstick, a lippencil is always nice or like having the lip angled, but I feel like the lip pencil also acts as a little barrier the bleeding. Agree.
And then for nudes Charlotte Tilbury pillow Talk, it's just you can't go wrong.
It's fifty four dollars.
It's expensive, but it's the perfect nudy pink and they've got the slight different levels of intensity depending on your skin tones. They've got like pillow talk, medium one or I don't know exactly what they're all called, but there's a bunch that you can choose from. So those are my two that I think of if I just want like a classic red or a classic.
Nude that will sort of suit everyone.
Actually think we spoke about this exact lipstick when we were doing the Christmas podcast in Her Bad Christmas Editions, and we mentioned the pack like I think there was a small yes, perfect for travel, So.
Perfect for travel, So trying it out.
Yeah, so have a look at the show notes on our Christmas episodes.
Next, we've got cat eyes. So the best liner hacks and fixing wobbly flicks when someone nails and their signature look is a cat eye like that beautiful wing.
Oh my goodness. Have you seen the video of how Ariana Grande does her liquid liner. No, she just literally pulls her eye and does a flick. And she said it's the one that never fail makeup thing. She just has like got it down.
Pat, you know why she practiced. Whenever people go, I don't know how to do a wing, you need to sit down and practice. Yeah, no, one, professional makeup artists can't just do a wing.
Yeah, I know many that still can't do it.
Yeah. Yeah, Like it is practice and the only person that's going to nail it on your own face is you. So you just need to find a YouTube tutorial where someone has got a similar eye shape and see how they do it, and then just sit in front of a mirror and recreate and recreate and recreate until you nail it.
You'll get there. You know what, though, I do have a tip here. Just use some tape. You can get surgical tape, so if you're worried about it pulling or literally regular tape, if you're using regular sticky tape, I would just put your finger on it just so it's not overly stiky. So yeah, so it doesn't rip the skin under your eye. Shape it underneath your eye so that when you're drawing your liquid liner you can't really go wrong, and then when you're done just peel it off. You've got this really lovely sharp sharp line. Yeah, it makes it so much easier.
I used to do that, and then I just started getting like a pointy Q tip with a bit of my cellar water on it and then just like cleaning up underneath it.
Basically does exactly the same thing.
Yeah, you can, but if you've got your base on, then that's going to take your base off as well.
Well, it's but so all the sticky tape, but as much if you've really sort of no I think if you're worried about liquid liner, just chuys, just do you conceal it later.
Yeah. I always do eyes first. Yeah.
First. If I'm doing a liquid liner, I don't do my foundation first. I just do my eye list, yeah, and I do the base last.
What's your favorite liquid eye liner?
So the Tart double tape eyeliner. It has a wind up pencil on one side and a liquid liner on the other. Genes, it's so good. It comes in black and it comes in a beautiful dark brown. Because sometimes you don't want the liquid liner, so it's more expensive in comparison to buying a regular liquid liner, but you have two liners. It's forty three dollars. Yeah, so I think personally it's worth it. The liquid liner has a beautiful brush. I think the formula holds really really well. It's a really strong black if you want to really like sharp black. And the brown is a really lovely shade of brown. And then yeah, you've got the benefit of using the pencil, so for those days where you're like this isn't working.
Yeah, I'm just I need something else.
Yeah, all long wear and they're so soft.
Yeah.
Well, I actually went into my little drawer where I've got all of my liquid pencils because I don't use them that often anymore, and I was like, okay, these are all quite old at this point, I'm going to have a look through and choose. And the only one that was still as good as the day I bought it was the Espresso high Liner Felt Hip Liquid Eye Line. I thirty four dollars from Saphora, and then I pulled it out to where today because I was like, oh my goodness, I forgot how good this product was. So it's like a shot mustash as well. It is just so good. It's so precise, it's so pigmented.
I love it. It is a very lovely pigments and black on your elia. That's actually it's.
Actually brown, is it?
It looks so black from here. It's a really really dark brown. It's a really good color. I don't think I actually have the brown in Australia anymore. But yeah, well that's sad.
Sorry, guys, I'm sorry, glowy bass.
How do you achieve that lit from within skin without looking greasy?
Okay, So this is my go to at the moment. Look, this might change later on tomorrow. It's changed over the years on how I got this look, but I feel like for me, this is my go to. So at the moment, I'm using the Nude by Nature Renewal Daily facial oil. I use it as a serum. Another one that would work similar is the Eco by Sonia Glory Oil. They're both really really lovely, good for regivity in your skin. You get all the skincare benefits from it. I find it doesn't matter what foundation I'm using on top, I will get that glow. So I've got it on today. I've got that Matt's c SA cream on with a loose powder, and you've still got to glow. I've got to glow through my skin. Yeah, So it doesn't really matter what foundation I'm using or how I'm setting it, I'll still get that glow. And I pair it with a like lovely liquid or cream blush. So I find if you've got those two products, it doesn't matter how you kind of set your makeup. You'll get that really nice finish and that really lit from within glow. Yep, it's like my go to, but there are different The Glory ail is forty nine ninety thirty mils and one hundred and twenty nine dollars per one hundred mil. I've never heard of it. Oh, it's like I find it online.
Yeah, you've always got like such really cool niche product recommendation that pair one thing you want from the middle of Brazil.
Yes, it was eighteen dollars. Yeah. Nude by Nature is thirty nine to ninety for thirty meals.
I don't have any product recommendations because I think that you can sort of get this effect using whatever you've got at home, which is kind of what you said. So for me, it just comes down to skin prep. Make sure you're prepping your skin and it's really hydrated and nourished before you even go in with products. Use cream products, and use powder very sparingly, like only on the points of your face where you might get oily, and then highlighter on the high points of your face, just to really get that lit from within beam. But I'd use whatever products you've got at home.
I think that's great because, like you know, what really is from the skin care. Although in saying that, I did forget to mention this liquid blush that I've discovered lately that actually gives you really nice glow and I think you'll really like it. The Hourglass Unreal liquid blush. Oh, I love everything our glass. It is fifty nine dollars, but I think for what you get, it's worth it, and you get this really lovely glows. You can put a touch of that on your nose or on your lips and on your eyelids if you want to have really nice natural finish, or put it on top of a full makeup o work.
That sounds like heaven, all right. An edgy and grungy eye the ultimate smudge proof formulas.
It's been a while since I've done a grungy eye look. I love it. It's so fun.
Also, I think though you actually kind of wanted to smudge a little bit to begin with to get that like grungey look.
It needs to be smudgy. Yeah, So this for me is great. If you are worried about your eye makeup smudging, this one is for you because the whole look is about it being smoldering and smudgy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, mine is not. I have a black option, but you know me, I love my browns. So the Mecha Max Zoom shadow stick in espresso or black. They're twenty dollars. You can literally just.
Use that and black it on and go whack it.
On and go get a brush smudge around the top of your lids, on the bottom of your lash line. Done, yeah, done, perfect and easy one. Mine's pretty easy.
I've got the Makeup bo Mario Pigment pro pencil because I think it's really important to have a pencil that you can sharpen when you want to do like that really like grungey, because you want to be able to really get in there, and I just find like the gels or the ones that you can't sharpen, you can't get in there enough, and then they don't dry down the way that the pencil does. If you have one with like a little brush or smudge tool on the other end, that just makes it so easy to get that really sexy eye. And just popping in a little recommendation for someone that really wants to nail and commit to this is their signature. Look the Hooter Beauty grunge palette one hundred and nineteen dollars. It is the sexiest, most badass palet you'll ever see in your entire life.
Yes, this is definitely for like the grudgey look life.
Oh yeah it's not.
This is for your skater girl. Yeah, yeah, one hundred.
For anyway, Coming up after the break, we are going to talk about the products we used to rely on for our signature looks and how we've elevated them over the years.
Put it on by now later, Yes, in the bag, baby.
In the bag? Okay o, what product the signature looks? Did you?
Yeah?
This is so funny because I've always loved like really glowy skin. But when highlighters first became more popular, like obviously they've always sort of been, but people weren't sort of releasing them left, rod and center.
Oh, they'd call them something. It wasn't like viral.
Yeah.
I used to make myself look like the actual tin men using those really chunky Jeffrey.
Star formulas and guys, before you judge her, remember it used to be popular. It was silber lipstick and it was also kill and it was kill to do the chunky like Jeffery Star used to sell out all the time. It was very popular to do this, which is just a little bit funny. But now I'm still obsessed with a highlight, but I love like a more grown up formula and cream formulas. I actually still like shampoo pop. I still use that sometimes. Yeah, okay, I used to like when champagn Pop came in, it was like it was a it was a rash box.
I think, yeah, it was really popular.
You'd have like the powder highlighter on your cheek, and I feel like I'm like gone away from that just because it is a harsher look and it does kind of show texture and stuff on your face. So I have moved on to more creamy blushes than a glow finish. I feel like I did save a photo here for you to see. This is from December twenty sixteen.
Oh my god.
YouTube like peek Contour and Champagne Pop was the thing, and.
Oh okay, I actually kind of love this, so it was a look, Oh my god, I okay, this is a but I feel like there's not a blush inside right.
Back twenty sixteen. That is gorgeous. I feel like the okay.
I know that you've shown me this to try to have a giggle yourself.
But I think this is okay, all right, I love that, and I actually think that that would still be incredible on a red cap.
Okay, I love it. I've judged that look too harsh, and I feel like back in the day.
Maybe in real life that would be way too much. But on the red carpet, Oh my god, heaven a fancy event.
Two thousand and nine. I have one for you, and you'll see this and be like Jesus. It's the hair and the makeup, and you.
Just explain what that's twenty twenty one.
That's two thousand and nine. Oh my god, it's not good.
It's there's the poker straight hair, is green eye shadow. It's green eyeshadow and absolutely no dimension to the face. The eyebrows don't appear to be done. There's no MISCAA on. It's just green eyeshadow, and.
Like, how pale are my lips?
But also with a bright baby pink on them.
Yeah, it's like a pastel.
And then okay, but the poker straight hair, the big hoops, the bigger, the help, the bigger, the hal Oh my god, this is so cute. Though I thought these said twenty around like I'm.
Sorry, no, no, two thousand, how did you have that much of a blow up.
In three years?
Or yeah, yeah, that is coming along way, and it's just like I feel like it's like not just products, it's looks. Yeah, it's the looks that come a long way.
So grown up Spendy's I've just got to for my Savy. It is the Oxx Highlighter balm in Opal from Kmart.
It's six dollars. It's incredible.
You just like rub a little bit on your finger then tap it onto the high points of your face.
Form us, Spendy.
I've got the Chanel the Highlighting Fluid ninety one dollars. But it is incredible and you really barely use any so it's going to last you an awfully long time.
I think that's amazing. Those are some really.
I think you're beaming highlight from twenty sixteen is amazing. And I actually fuck the makeup for twenty twenty five.
Let's go back to twenty sixteen. I can't talk. Yeah, I'm now mad with it.
Well, that's all the time we've got for today.
I will be back in your ears tomorrow with Spendy Savy.
With the delightful lead Campbell. But Campbell, why did.
I say that so Well?
Cambell with the Lovelyly and Sarah Marino were back in your ears next week, and you best believe I'll be rocking a twenty sixteen makeup look.
I'll give you my champepe pop please you. Beauty is produced by Cassie Merritt, with audio production by Teak and Sadler and video production by Berlina Caciosa.
