Before I became an author, I used to fantasize about sitting in a coffee shop, light streaming in through the window, fingers posed effortlessly at the keys, struck with inspiration, writing chapter after chapter. I thought endless about how it would feel to hit the NYT Bestsellers list and be respected by my peers.
