Damning report on Closing the Gap targets

View descriptionShare

This week the Productivity Commission handed down it's latest findings on Closing the Gap and the results were damning.

Out of the 19 targets set out by the National Agreement between Australian governments, the commission found just five of the target where on track to be met by 2030 and four have gone backwards.

One of the concerning targets focusses on reducing Indigenous suicide.  Menang woman, Megan Karkouer, director of the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Project says the impact of suicide on families is devastating.

Other highlights:

  • Catherine Liddle, deputy co-convenor of the Coalition of Peaks, focuses on some of the good outcomes of Closing the Gap.
  • The First People's Disability Network's express their profound disappointment at the Federal Government's response to the findings of the Disability Royal Commission
  • Mob in Tasmania set up camp on the front lawns of Parliament House demanding action on the State's stalled treaty process; and
  • An impressive line of performers set to entertain at the 23rd Garma Festival for the next four days in the Top End.

This week's episode is presented by Nance Haxton.
