Foreign nationals illegally entering Australia through the Northern Territory coastline have angered the Northern Land Council.

The NLC's concerned about an increase in foreign fishing vessels along the NT coast.

The Council says rangers on Croker Island had to help four men who claimed to have paid $6,000 US dollars to be taken to Australia.

A majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders don't believe their gendered violence complaints will be taken seriously by police. That is a finding within the latest National Community Attitudes towards Violence Against Women Survey.
A week of cultural ceremonies to acknowledge the Aboriginal men and boys who were incarcerated and buried on the island has wrapped up on Wadjemup, also known as Rottnest Island.
And we look at the bill that aims to alter the Treaty of Waitangi to apply to all citizens of New Zealand with nothing to differentiate Maori and non Maori.

The Northern Land Council raises concerns about foreign nationals entering Australia through the Northern Territory coastline.

Optus is the latest telco to run foul of consumer law in Australia.

Consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has accused Optus for allegedly selling products to vulnerable customers they did not want or need, and then chasing them for debts. 

Most of the impacted consumers were Indigenous people living in regional, remote and very remote parts of the Northern Territory.

Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb says many consumers experienced financial harm, incurring thousands of dollars of debt and experienced trauma such as shame, fear, and emotional distress about the debts or being pursued by debt collectors.

She spoke to NIRS this week about the nature of the breaches.

An investigation by consumer advocacy group, Choice, found essential groceries costs doubled in remote communities compared to capital cities.
Applications for the AMA's Indigenous Medical Scholarship are now open. Indigenous students are encouraged to apply.
The Work Exposure in Government Program brought together 55 students to Parliament House to provide hands-on experience and exposure to job opportunities.
The Federal Government has unveiled a First Nations Visitor Economy Partnership that will give Indigenous-owned businesses access to greater economic opportunities.

In Queensland, the Truth Telling and Healing inquiry will be scrapped should the LNP wins the state election.   

The LNP originally supported the Path to Treaty Act but backed away citing the failure of the Voice Referendum last year.  In it's election pitch to Queenslanders, the LNP says its too divisive.

You will hear why the Inquiry chair Joshua Creamer believes their work will continue regardless of election result.
