This week's PODCAST with Mario Corena & ''Vogliamoci Bene'', we welcome in Studio Sanremo special guest Professor Tarun Bastiampillai, Professor of Psychiatry at Flinders University. 

Professor Bastiampillai is a scientist-practitioner with a strong translation and policy research record, winning competitive research grants, with publications in high impact factor journals, inclusive of JAMA, the Lancet, Lancet Psychiatry and Molecular Psychiatry.

Professor Bastiampillai also has extensive experience in the field of mental health service planning and clinical leadership; provided strategic direction for delivery of mental health services on a state-wide basis, with a proven capacity to lead fundamental reform and implementation of initiatives for improved performance and clinical outcomes. He has a proven track record in the field of clinical analytics.

He is the clinical analytics advisor for unpanned care within the SA Department of Health and Wellbeing, having previously been the mental health analytics lead. Professor Bastiampillai was awarded in 2020 the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry Bi-national award for outstanding achievement in administrative psychiatry.

In this PODCAST we ask Tarun the following :

1)     Tarun, tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you raised(ie suburb)  schools etc.

2)     In general how do you feel Australia is handling Mental Health and illness.

3)     Do you see it more in specific areas(ie age, gender, race etc)

4)     In regards to the brain, do you feel the social aspect can fix that or do we need the science as well.

5)     Tell us a bit more about  the data and the science you have been researching into.

6)     In regards to Refugees in Australia, how do they fare in respect to those born here in Australia?

7)     Where do you see us in years to come re Mental Health and illness. It seems the numbers are increasing, yet our systems don’t seem to be coping.

8)     I always mention people with physical illnesses such as cancer, cardio, etc etc bring on mental health issues and can cause a problem to many aspects such as recovery, length of remaining life etc. Do we have studies/data in this area?

9)     The value of Lived Experience in the workforce.
