In our first case, a facility Director of Nursing (DON) will be speaking with Marie, an administrative staff member in an adult long-term care facility. The facility strongly encourages all staff members to be vaccinated for COVID-19 annually. Marie has ignored two communications regarding a COVID-19 vaccine over the past few months. Marie did receive her initial vaccinations for COVID-19 in 2021 and one in 2022. She was outwardly supportive of the facility’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts at that time, but she has not received a vaccine since 2022.

Marie’s case is a helpful reminder that not all vaccine resistance is strong, and that low-level resistance can still be challenging to address.
