However experts say while Stokvels continue to grow in this traditional form, the stokvel industry is taking on bigger and more sophisticated investments. Stokvel industry taking on bigger, more sophisticated investments

The Hawks, in collaboration with Interpol South Africa, will facilitate the extradition of six Nigerian nationals to the United States.The six men are alleged members of the Black Axe organised crime network and are wanted in the US for wire fraud and money laundering. They allegedly defrauded more than 100 American women of over 100 million rand through sophisticated online romance scams, targeting pensioners and business people. The suspects were arrested in South Africa in 2021. They will be handed over to FBI and US Secret Service officials at Cape Town International Airport this afternoon. Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale explains

Six Nigerians to be extradited to America 

Five suspects arrested in a multi-million rand drug bust on a farm in Musina, Limpopo last month have  abandoned bail at the Musina magistrate's court. The suspects were arrested during a police operation. They including two Mexican nationals, two Zimbabwean nationals and a Malawian national. The five foreign nationals, aged between 20 and 47, include Mariano Barraza and Joan Castillo from Mexico and three Zimbabwean nationals, Tichaona Nyamukanga, Tanaka Nyamukanga and Lee Mubayi. Their defense lawyer Attorney Wiets Beukes informed the court that they will inform the court about a possible bail application at a later stage. Beukes told the court that they are not ready to proceed as a Spanish interpreter is not available. Beukes also told court that accused number 5 needs immediate medical attention, as he had seizures yesterday in custody. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC news reporter Avhapfani Munyai

Five foreign nationals abandon bail after drug bust

Correctional Services National Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale says a prisoner who escaped from the Rooigrond Maximum Correctional Centre near Mahikeng in the North West has been rearrested. Edward Madiba is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, possession of a firearm and ammunition, kidnapping and parole violation. Speaking at a media briefing this morning, Thobakgale also confirmed that investigations are underway into who may have assisted Madiba in his escape.
