South Africa will take over the presidency of the G20 group. This will be the first time an African country is leading this group of powerful nations. Today in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, the Brazilian President Lula da Silva will officially handover to President Cyril Ramaphosa. The president has promised to continue to push for the interests of the developing South countries. Meanwhile, the president of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP 29, Mukhtar Babayev, has warned that initiatives to mitigate the effects of climate change could stall if governments refuse to compromise.
