View descriptionShare

Search and rescue teams are continuing in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape after tug vessel LEO sank about 80 nautical miles south in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday). The vessel sent a mayday late Saturday due to uncontrolled water ingress. Of 18 crew aboard, 13 are accounted for 12 survivors and one presumed deceased. Five remain missing. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre is coordinating efforts, with merchant vessels, a fishing boat, and a helicopter assisting despite adverse weather. Operations continue around the clock.  Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Donald Ratshibvumo acting chief from The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre
