President Cyril Ramaphosa says gender-based violence is a betrayal of the South Africa's constitution. This is as the country is plagued by gendered discrimination which manifest in many ways, most notably as violence against women. Ramaphosa says in recent years, government has worked together with other stakeholders to fight gender-based violence and femicide. Through strategic national plans, government has introduced new laws that protect survivors of GBV that improves the response of the police and ensure harsher sentences to perpetrators. Ramaphosa was speaking at the official National Women's Day celebration in Pofader, in the Northern Cape province.
