Researchers at the University of the Free State say more could have been done to prevent the Jargersfontein mine dam wall collapse. The disaster claimed three lives and destroyed more than a hundred homes. 11 September marks four years since the tragedy occurred in 2022. According to research Associate, Phia van der Watt - hope was still breathing amongst the Jagersfontein residents in 2023, with the promise of good quality homes and a better future. However, after her last visit in 2025, van der Watt sense that all was lost.
