A massive Mandrax operation has been uncovered at a secluded smallholding in Erasmia, west of Pretoria. Police say the suspected laboratory had the capacity to produce up to 800-thousand tablets a day. Two foreign nationals have been arrested, while investigators are now on underway to discover the alleged masterminds behind the operation. Musa Mhlongo reports.

Researchers at the University of the Free State say more could have been done to prevent the Jargersfontein mine dam wall collapse. Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, New York City has released more than 170-thousand pages of previously withheld records that could shed new light on what officials knew about the toxic air around Ground Zero days after the attack. The documents point to concerns inside government about asbestos, other contaminants and potential legal liability, even as the public was being reassured about air safety.
